Update: Ogun Gov. Abiodun Seals Gbenga Daniel’s Properties, Sparks Political Firestorm

0

In what many are branding a blatant act of political vendetta, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has ordered the sealing of properties belonging to his predecessor and political heavyweight, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD).

On Monday, officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority stormed Sagamu, pasting official “Notice of Seal/Stop Work Orders” on Daniel’s private residence and his upscale hotel, Adeola Court.

The notices, sighted by newsheadline247, cited alleged breaches of planning and development regulations. But critics argue the timing and the choice of target are anything but coincidental.

Public outcry has been swift, with many accusing Governor Abiodun of using state machinery to settle political scores. Political observers say the move is part of an intensifying cold war between the governor and the former two-term leader of the state, whose influence in Ogun politics remains formidable.

Daniel, a key player in the 2019 political realignment that helped propel Abiodun into office, is now seen by some as a victim of betrayal — and the sealing as a warning shot to other perceived opponents.

This latest development adds to a growing list of controversies dogging the Abiodun administration, which civil society groups accuse of weaponising state agencies to intimidate critics and opposition figures. Rights advocates have warned that such clampdowns could plunge Ogun into a climate of fear and political instability.

With tension mounting, all eyes are now on whether Gbenga Daniel will challenge the legality of the sealing in court — or whether this marks the opening salvo in a bitter political battle that could reshape the state’s political future. Read More

Update: Ogun Gov Abiodun Seals Gbenga Daniel’s Properties, Set for Demolition

0

Officials of the Ogun State Government have served notices to seal properties linked to former governor and current senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD).

The affected assets reportedly include Daniel’s private residence and a hotel, though the government has yet to issue a formal statement on the reason for the action.

The move has already stirred political chatter and speculation over possible motives, especially given the long-standing political history between the incumbent governor, Dapo Abiodun, and his predecessor.

Details of the enforcement process remain sketchy, but sources suggest that the sealing could be related to regulatory, tax, or compliance issues — though no official confirmation has been provided at the time of filing this report.

Political watchers say the development could heighten tensions within the state’s political landscape in the coming days.

Ibom Air Slaps Lifetime Ban on Passenger Over Violent Mid-Air

The airline said it has reported the matter to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and imposed a permanent ban

Ibom Air Slaps Lifetime Ban on Passenger Over Violent Mid-Air

Ibom Air has issued a lifetime travel ban to a female passenger, Ms. Comfort Emmanson, after a shocking series of assaults on crew members and security personnel during and after a Uyo-to-Lagos flight on Sunday, August 10, 2025 — an incident now making waves online.

In a statement on Monday, the airline revealed that the trouble started before take-off in Uyo when Ms. Emmanson allegedly refused to switch off her mobile phone despite repeated instructions, a breach of aviation safety regulations.

The matter escalated when the Pilot-in-Command addressed it via the public address system, prompting another passenger to take her phone and switch it off. This reportedly triggered a verbal outburst from her.

The flight departed without further drama, but upon arrival in Lagos, chaos erupted. Ibom Air alleged that after waiting for others to disembark, Ms. Emmanson confronted the Purser, “stepping on her, yanking off her wig, removing her glasses, and hurling them to the floor before assaulting her with her footwear.”She then allegedly slapped another crew member who intervened.

According to the airline, the passenger also tried to pull out a fire extinguisher — a move they warned could have damaged the aircraft. The Pilot-in-Command called airport security, but before they arrived, the Purser, as shown in a now-viral video, restrained Ms. Emmanson from leaving the plane.

When Ibom Air security eventually boarded, the statement claims Ms. Emmanson turned her aggression on them too, attacking personnel and “even slapping the ground supervisor” before being forcibly removed. She was handed over to FAAN security and the Nigeria Police Force for investigation.

The airline said it has reported the matter to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and imposed a permanent ban, stressing its zero-tolerance policy towards unruly passengers.

“Safety remains our highest priority,” Ibom Air stated, adding that any violent conduct threatening passengers, crew, or aircraft would result in legal action and lifetime restriction from its services.

The airline praised the professionalism and bravery of its crew during what it described as “extremely challenging circumstances,” and thanked airport security and the police for their swift intervention. Read More

Dangote Refinery Begins Delivery of CNG Trucks for Fuel Distribution Initiative

Dangote Refinery Begins Delivery of CNG Trucks for Fuel Distribution Initiative

Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has commenced the receipt of 4,000 compressed natural gas powered trucks, an integral part of its fuel distribution logistics programme set to start on August 15.

The initiative aims to transform the fuel distribution landscape within Nigeria by reducing logistics costs and enhancing supply efficiency for customers.

The fleet of fuel tankers, being imported through Apapa Port, represents a significant capital investment estimated at N720 billion. This expenditure underscores the company’s commitment to pioneering innovative solutions as the world’s largest single-train refinery continues to expand its operational capabilities.

The first consignment of trucks recently departed Apapa Port and was formally received at the refinery site in Ibeju-Lekki by Vice-President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Ltd, Devakumar Edwin. The arrival was met with enthusiasm from refinery personnel and customers alike, many of whom were present to witness the tangible progress towards improved fuel accessibility.

Members of the public who observed the convoy’s journey from Apapa to Ibeju-Lekki expressed commendation for Dangote’s proactive approach in addressing the chronic logistics challenges that have long impeded the downstream sector.

Speaking on the rollout, Group Chief of Branding and Communication, Dangote Industries Limited, Mr Anthony Chiejina, provided further insights into the implementation strategy:

“The commencement of the initiative marks a groundbreaking development in Nigeria’s fuel distribution network. Given the complexities inherent in global supply chains, the delivery of these specialised CNG-powered tankers is indeed commedable. This approach ensures that we maintain operational efficiency while scaling up the fleet.

“Our unwavering commitment to this programme is reflected in our ongoing collaboration with key regulatory bodies and stakeholders to facilitate seamless deployment. We believe this initiative will significantly lower distribution costs and improve fuel availability for our customers nationwide.”

He added that over the next six weeks, the refinery expects at least sixty shiploads of these trucks to arrive in the country.

This innovative distribution model is expected to catalyse efficiency gains across Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, fostering greater transparency, reducing transportation bottlenecks, and ultimately enhancing energy security for the nation.

In June, Dangote Petroleum Refinery revealed a landmark investment exceeding N720 billion to deploy 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks across Nigeria for the nationwide distribution of petroleum products. This bold initiative is projected to save Nigerians over N1.7 trillion annually in fuel distribution costs.

The privately owned refinery will absorb more than N1.07 trillion every year in fuel logistics expenses. The scheme is expected to significantly benefit over 42 million Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by lowering energy costs and improving profitability.

This strategic programme is part of Dangote’s broader commitment to eliminating logistics bottlenecks, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting environmental sustainability, and supporting Nigeria’s economic development. Lower fuel distribution costs will reduce production expenses, alleviate inflationary pressures, and stimulate overall economic growth.

The initiative is also expected to revitalise dormant filling stations, creating over 15,000 direct jobs across the logistics value chain, including positions for drivers, station managers, and attendants at the new CNG stations.

Moreover, the refinery said that the programme would help curb cross-border smuggling of petroleum products while supporting a more efficient and environmentally friendly distribution system.

Commercial Coordinator of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), Tosin Coker, commended the move:

“Dangote Group’s acquisition of 4,000 CNG trucks is not only impressive in scale but also highly strategic,” he said. “It signals to the market that CNG is no longer a distant prospect but a current, practical solution to high energy costs, emissions, and supply chain challenges. PCNGI regards this as a milestone achievement in our efforts to accelerate gas-powered transport adoption.” Read More

“Hands Off Gbenga Daniel’s Properties! Civil Society Fires at Gov. Abiodun, Demands Justice

A leading civil rights organisation, the Movement for Social and Economic Justice, has thrown its weight behind calls for fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to the rule of law in Ogun State’s ongoing enforcement of property regulations, warning against what it described as political witch-hunting.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Sunday, the group urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to ensure justice is not only done but is seen to be done. Quoting a Yoruba maxim popularised by music icon Chief Ebenezer Obey in honour of the late Chief Akin Olugbade — “Ka to fi eniyan joye laarin ilu, o ni lati je eni rere” (“Before a person is given honour in the community, they must be of good character”) — the group stressed that this timeless wisdom should guide leadership and governance in the state.

Gov. Dapo Abiodun

The movement expressed concern over what it termed the “retroactive application of the law” and the “perceived targeting of individuals” ahead of the 2027 political season. It questioned the legality of citing a 2022 law to justify demolitions and contravention notices in 2025 on buildings constructed as far back as 2004, 2013, and 2015 — all of which, it claimed, had the necessary approvals at the time.

“This development raises questions about whether the enforcement is rooted in law and justice or political machinations. The principle of Omoluabi calls for fairness and respect for due process, even in the heat of political differences,” the statement read.

The group specifically cited enforcement actions against properties linked to Senator Gbenga Daniel, including the Asoludero Court, the Conference Hotel, and its annex in Sagamu, warning that such steps could be seen as reckless and a misuse of executive power if not handled transparently.

They also drew attention to the controversial midnight demolition of the Datkem Shopping Complex in Ijebu-Ode in 2023 — an incident they said remains “fresh in public memory.” According to the group, repeating such episodes could erode public trust in the administration’s commitment to justice and fairness.

“Ogun State has a long history of political rivalry,” the movement noted, “but governance must rise above personal or partisan battles to ensure the protection of rights and the rule of law.”

They further reminded the government that political power is transient: “What endures is the legacy of fairness, justice, and the people’s trust.”

The group called on Governor Abiodun to personally intervene to ensure that all enforcement actions follow due process, are anchored in existing legal frameworks, and are free from retroactive application that could undermine the rule of law.

They recommended dialogue and legal clarity in resolving disputes over property rights, warning that economic and political stability depends on an atmosphere of fairness and predictability.

“The hallmark of great leadership,” the statement concluded, “is the ability to win political battles without compromising justice. Ogun State can and must set a national example in this regard.” Read More

From 9mobile to T2… Telecom Giant Unveils Bold New Identity

From 9mobile to T2… Telecom Giant Unveils Bold New Identity

Nigeria’s telecommunications landscape witnessed a major shift on Friday as 9mobile officially rebranded to T2, unveiling a bold orange colour scheme and a renewed digital-first vision at the “Tech Meets Tenacity” launch event held at the Eko Convention Center, Lagos.

The CEO of Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited (EMTS), Obafemi Banigbe, described the transformation as more than a cosmetic change.

“This is not just a brand unveiling, it is the beginning of a bold new chapter in our history. It is a declaration that we are no longer who we were, but we are becoming something greater. We are becoming something more ambitious,” Banigbe said.

He explained that T2 aims to become a customer-focused, technology-driven, API-enabled operator, leveraging cloud-native infrastructure and data analytics to deliver faster, smarter, and more tailored services.

Highlighting the evolving demands of Nigerian consumers, Banigbe noted that “We see it in the rising tide of the youth, we see it in the entrepreneurs that are all over the place across our nation, in the boldness of our startup ecosystem, in the resilience of our SMEs, in the desires of our families to stay connected, to stay informed and to stay entertained anytime and anywhere.”

The CEO reaffirmed that T2 is “proudly Nigerian”, rooted in resilience and tenacity, and committed to adapting to market realities.

“In the face of overwhelming odds, our people, the Nigerian people, we have shown a spirit of resilience and of tenacity that continues to inspire the world,” he said.

Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, praised the rebrand, noting the impact of mobile network operators (MNOs) on Nigeria’s economy.

“The MNOs have invested boldly, spending more than 75 billion in towers, fibre, and now 5G, all without any government subsidy. The MNOs have powered our economy, contributing around 16 percent to our GDP, and creating millions of direct and indirect jobs,” Tijani said.

He urged T2 to let the rebrand signal more than a change of logo or colours.

“Let it be a renewed commitment to innovation, to service excellence, and to the millions of Nigerians whose lives and businesses depend on your network every single day,” he added.

The T2 name change follows LH’s acquisition of a 95.5% stake in the company about a year ago, marking the second rebrand in its history after the switch from Etisalat to 9mobile in 2017. Once boasting a large subscriber base, the network’s active users had dropped to 3.2 million by early 2025, underscoring the high stakes of this new direction. Read More

Dangote Refinery Debunks shutdown rumour, says PMS’s gantry price remains N850

“The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is fully operational. There has been no shutdown, nor has there been any suspension of truck loading activities”

Dangote Refinery Debunks shutdown rumour, says PMS’s gantry price remains N850

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has firmly dismissed recent reports alleging a shutdown of its operations, reassuring the public and market stakeholders that its activities remain fully active and stable.

In an official statement by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, the refinery’s management categorically denied claims that truck loading has been suspended or that production has been interrupted.

“The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is fully operational. There has been no shutdown, nor has there been any suspension of truck loading activities” the statement reads.

The refinery also clarified that the intermittent sale of Residual Catalytic Oil (RCO) is part of normal business operations, often involving large parcel sales, which explains the recent fuel oil tender.

According to the management, Dangote Petroleum Refinery consistently supplies over 40 million litres of PMS daily, alongside steady volumes of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel). These supplies continue unabated, despite speculation suggesting otherwise.

“As the world’s largest single-train petroleum refinery, the facility employs advanced predictive and preventive maintenance protocols to ensure uninterrupted operations. Routine maintenance activities are standard and do not impact the overall fuel supply” the statement further clarified.

In response to speculation about potential supply shortages and price increases, the refinery challenged those sponsoring the rumour to place orders for daily deliveries of up to 40 million litres of PMS and 15 million litres of diesel for the next 90 days.

“To those who believe this misinformation and anticipate a bullish market, we extend a challenge: We invite interested buyers to place immediate orders for up to 40 million litres of PMS daily and 15 million litres of AGO daily, for the next 90 days.

The refinery reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and Nigeria’s energy security, urging the public to disregard unfounded rumours sponsored by unscrupulous and unpatriotic individuals seeking to undermine the country’s energy independence for their own selfish interests, including the importation of substandard fuels under the false pretext of domestic supply shortages.
