WAFCON Triumph:  Tinubu Gives Each Super Falcon $100,000, 3-Bedroom Flat in Abuja, OON National Honours

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been handsomely rewarded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following their stunning triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

In a celebratory event held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu announced a remarkable package for each member of the victorious team: the naira equivalent of $100,000, a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Abuja, and the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour.

The announcement came just days after the Falcons clinched their 10th WAFCON title, defeating host nation Morocco 3-2 in a dramatic final in Rabat—a victory that further cemented Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.

“Your victory has brought immense pride to our nation,” President Tinubu said while addressing the jubilant squad. “You have shown the world the strength, resilience, and brilliance of Nigerian women. This is more than a win in football—it is a national achievement worthy of celebration and recognition.”

Reward Breakdown for Each Player:

  • $100,000 (in naira equivalent)
  • Three-bedroom apartment in Abuja
  • OON national honour

In addition to the players’ rewards, each member of the technical crew will receive a $50,000 cash bonus, as approved by the President.

Further adding to the celebrations, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum announced an additional ₦10 million gift for every player and crew member, underscoring the nationwide appreciation for the team’s achievement.

The ceremony was filled with dancing, cheers, and the proud presentation of the WAFCON trophy to President Tinubu. It was attended by senior government officials, sports administrators, and stakeholders from Nigeria’s football community.

Prior to the final match, President Tinubu had also approved the immediate release of all owed allowances and match bonuses, ensuring that the team went into the final with full backing from the federal government.

The resounding recognition has not only celebrated the Falcons’ brilliance on the pitch but has also ignited renewed calls for greater investment in women’s sports, gender equity in Nigerian athletics, and long-term support for grassroots female football development.

As the country basks in the Falcons’ continental success, many see this moment as a turning point—one that could reshape the narrative around women’s football in Nigeria for generations to come. Read More

Historic! How Super Falcons Completed Mission X, Won 10th WAFCON Title, Wrote Their Names in Gold

Historic! How Super Falcons Completed Mission X, Won 10th WAFCON Title, Wrote Their Names in Gold

Nigeria’s Super Falcons staged a dramatic second-half comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), sealing a record-extending 10th continental title in breathtaking fashion.

Playing at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, the Atlas Lionesses stunned the African giants early on, racing into a 2-0 lead within the first 25 minutes. Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak opened scoring in the 12th minute, while Sanaa Mssoudy doubled the advantage just 12 minutes later, silencing the Nigerian bench and electrifying the home crowd.

But the Super Falcons, true to their reputation, flipped the script in the second half with a heroic display. A penalty by Esther Okoronkwo in the 64th minute sparked the comeback, before she turned provider for Florence Ijamilusi’s equaliser in the 71st minute. With just minutes left on the clock, Jennifer Echegini latched onto an Okoronkwo free kick to complete the turnaround and deliver Nigeria’s long-awaited “Mission X” — the quest for their 10th WAFCON crown.

The loss was a bitter blow for Morocco, who have now lost two consecutive WAFCON finals on home soil. For Nigeria, however, it was a reaffirmation of their dominance in African women’s football.

Path to Glory: Nigeria’s WAFCON 2024 Journey

Nigeria 3–0 Tunisia — Oshoala Leads the Way
The Falcons kicked off their campaign with a commanding victory over Tunisia. Goals from Asisat Oshoala, Rinsola Babajide, and Chinwendu Ihezuo set the tone for the tournament.

Nigeria 1–0 Botswana — Ihezuo Strikes Late
In a tightly contested game against Botswana, Nigeria struggled to break through until Ihezuo fired home in the 89th minute, breaking the Mares’ resistance and sealing qualification to the knockout stage.

Nigeria 0–0 Algeria — Group Stage Wraps with Stalemate
Already assured of a quarter-final spot, Coach Justin Madugu rested key players. Algeria held firm for a goalless draw in a match with few clear chances.

Nigeria 5–0 Zambia — Ruthless in the Quarter-Final

The Super Falcons exploded in the quarter-final, dismantling Zambia with goals from Osinachi Ohale, Okoronkwo, Ihezuo, Oluwatosin Demehin, and Ijamilusi. It was their most emphatic win of the tournament.

Nigeria 2–1 South Africa — Last-Minute Magic

In a semi-final showdown against defending champions South Africa, Rasheedat Ajibade gave Nigeria the lead just before halftime. Linda Motlhalo equalised for Banyana Banyana in the 60th minute, but Nigeria had the last laugh as Michelle Alozie’s looping cross slipped into the net in stoppage time.

Nigeria 3–2 Morocco — Comeback for the Ages

Trailing 0-2 at halftime, the Super Falcons rose to the occasion in the final. Okoronkwo’s penalty and assist sparked life into the team, with Ijamilusi levelling and Echegini sealing the win in the 88th minute to break Moroccan hearts.

Champions Again: A Legacy Reaffirmed

The 2024 title adds to Nigeria’s decorated WAFCON legacy, making it their 10th win in 13 editions. The Super Falcons have only failed to lift the trophy in 2008, 2012, and 2020 — a record unmatched by any team on the continent.

“This was about pride, legacy, and heart. The Super Falcons proved once again why we are the queens of African football,” said head coach Justin Madugu after the win.

With this historic triumph, Nigeria not only reclaimed their place atop African women’s football but also sent a clear message ahead of future international competitions — they remain the team to beat. Read More

Lagos Doctors Begin 3-Day Warning Strike Over “Illegal” Salary Deductions, Demand Full Payment of Arrears

Lagos Doctors Begin 3-Day Warning Strike Over “Illegal” Salary Deductions, Demand Full Payment of Arrears

Medical doctors under the employment of the Lagos State Government have commenced a three-day warning strike to protest what they describe as “illegal and disrespectful” deductions from their salaries by the state.

The action, which began at 8 a.m. today and is set to end by the same time on Thursday, was declared by the Medical Guild — the official association of medical and dental practitioners in Lagos State’s public service.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Guild’s secretariat in Lagos, the Chairman, Dr. Japhet Olugbogi, said the decision to down tools came after several failed attempts to resolve the matter through peaceful dialogue.

According to Olugbogi, the dispute first erupted in April when doctors noticed unexplained deductions from their salaries. Though the state government eventually reversed the deductions after what he described as a “spirited intervention and strategic engagement,” the issue resurfaced in July — this time, without any explanation or prior notice.

“It is disappointing that after engaging constructively with the government, we are again confronted with fresh deductions, and this time with complete disregard for communication or transparency,” Dr. Olugbogi said.

Among the Guild’s major demands are immediate reversal of the July salary deductions and full payment of the 12-month revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) arrears owed to honorary consultants at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

At the time of reporting, the Lagos State Government had not released an official response to the strike declaration. However, the Ministry of Health, in a late-night statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Tunbosun Ogunbanwo, acknowledged the doctors’ concerns and assured that the matter was being addressed with “sincerity and urgency.”

“Negotiations and engagements with the Medical Guild are ongoing,” the statement noted.
“This is the first time the ministry is experiencing such a development in recent years, and the government is particularly concerned about the welfare, motivation, and productivity of all healthcare workers across the state.”

The ministry added that a conciliation committee involving representatives from both the Medical Guild and the government had already been set up, with several meetings held and documents submitted by the Guild currently under review.

“As a responsible government, we value the critical role our healthcare professionals play in delivering quality and timely health services to over 20 million residents of Lagos State,” Ogunbanwo stated.

He urged the doctors to remain committed to dialogue and allow negotiations to reach a peaceful resolution.

“Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu remains committed to promoting the welfare of healthcare workers and ensuring industrial harmony within the health sector,” the statement read, while also assuring Lagosians that contingency measures were being put in place to minimize disruption to healthcare services during the strike period.

The warning strike, although temporary, highlights mounting tensions in Lagos’ health sector, with observers warning that prolonged industrial action could severely affect healthcare delivery in the state. Read More

Unveiled during a special event in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Friday, 4 July 2025, the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to tackling systemic barriers to learning—particularly the challenge of limited electricity in underserved communities.

“Beyond helping them improve their academic performance,” she added, “we want to inspire young minds to see that innovation and resilience can light the path to a better future.”

Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe also highlighted Fidelity Bank’s broader investment in education, such as the SWEETA School Fees Support Initiative, which has disbursed over ₦8 billion in tuition support to eligible customers; the Read2Lead Writing Competition, which has impacted more than 3,000 students across Nigeria through prizes and grants; the Back-to-School Loans for parents; the Fidelity EduLoan which helps schools with infrastructure upgrades and asset acquisition; as well as the Green Energy Financing Program, which complements the solar-powered bag initiative by promoting sustainable energy use in education via solar energy.

Mrs. Abiodun praised the project, calling it a crucial and timely intervention in child development and foundational learning.

“Time to Swing Into Action!” – Aregbesola Rallies ADC in Osun, Unveils 2026 Guber Election Strategy

“Time to Swing Into Action!” – Aregbesola Rallies ADC in Osun, Unveils 2026 Guber Election Strategy

Former Interior Minister and ex-governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has called on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to intensify grassroots mobilisation as the party gears up for the November 2026 governorship election.

At a strategic meeting held Sunday in Ilesa, Aregbesola — now a national leader of the ADC — met with stakeholders and members of the Omoluabi Progressives, the political movement he founded after breaking ties with the All Progressives Congress (APC). He urged the gathering to seize the opportunity offered by the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise scheduled to begin on August 18.

“The time has come to swing into action,” Aregbesola charged during his address to party faithful drawn from across Osun’s local government areas.

“The forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration exercise, scheduled to commence on August 18, is crucial to the task ahead,” he added, encouraging widespread mobilisation, especially among young people and disenfranchised groups.

“Everyone must actively participate, mobilise, and galvanise the people to register and be ready to vote.”

The gathering marks a critical moment in Aregbesola’s political resurgence. His defection from the APC followed a prolonged rift with his successor, Gboyega Oyetola, which played a role in the latter’s defeat during the 2022 election that saw Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clinch victory.

With his movement now formally aligned with the ADC, Aregbesola is positioning the party as a viable alternative in Osun politics — and potentially beyond.

Political analysts view the 2026 Osun election as a litmus test for Aregbesola’s influence ahead of the 2027 general elections. A victory — or even a strong ADC performance — could elevate his status as a national political player in what’s anticipated to be a wide-open presidential contest.

Addressing the future direction of the party, Aregbesola stressed discipline, unity, and issue-driven campaigning.

“Rather than resort to name-calling or personal attacks, we must focus on policy- and issue-based debates that enrich political discourse and set the tone for our mission to return Osun to true progressive leadership,” he stated.

He also lauded local leaders for their unwavering support, “We are convinced and reassured of the support of our people to take us to the desired zenith. Nigeria must work in our lifetime.”

As the 2026 race approaches, Aregbesola appears determined to transform the ADC from a fringe player into a formidable force in Osun — and potentially position himself as a power broker ahead of 2027.

But political observers caution, “His next chapter may depend on whether he can deliver the state to a party still considered minor in national politics — or at least disrupt the current political order significantly.” Read More

Senate Committee on Navy’s Oversight in Rivers: A Commitment to Maritime Security and Welfare

Senate Committee on Navy’s Oversight in Rivers: A Commitment to Maritime Security and Welfare

By John Adenekan
Port Harcourt, Rivers State

The Senate Committee on Navy, under the diligent leadership of Senator Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel, has concluded an impactful three-day oversight visit to various naval formations across Rivers State. From July 23rd to 25th, 2025, the committee meticulously assessed the operational readiness, challenges, and welfare initiatives of the Nigerian Navy in a region crucial to Nigeria’s maritime security and economic prosperity.

The visit underscored the Senate’s commitment to ensuring the Nigerian Navy is adequately equipped and supported to fulfill its multifaceted mandate. Senator Daniel, since his appointment as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy in August 2023, has consistently advocated for robust naval support.

On Wednesday, July 23, 2025,  Senate Committee from Abuja was received  the Port Harcourt International Airport by the commander of NNS Pathfinder, Commodore CN Aniaku. The oversight then commenced  immediately at the Headquarters of NNS Pathfinder in Port Harcourt. The committee, including Senators Khalid Ibrahim, Patrick Ndubueze, Cyril Fasuyi, and Tony Nwoye, received detailed briefings on the command’s activities, achievements, and the array of challenges it faces. Discussions revolved around the ongoing fight against crude oil theft, piracy, and other illicit maritime activities that plague the Niger Delta.

Recent reports indicate that the Nigerian Navy, particularly through operations like “Operation Delta Sanity II,” has made significant strides in combating crude oil theft, with over 103 illegal refinery sites destroyed and 34 suspects arrested since January 2025, alongside the recovery of large quantities of stolen crude and refined products. These efforts are crucial, as illegal bunkering continues to pose a major threat to the nation’s economy.

The delegation then moved to Navy Shipyard Ltd, a key naval agency led by Rear Adm. EE Ebe and responsible for vessel construction and maintenance. This visit highlighted the importance of local capacity development in maritime engineering and logistics, essential for the long-term sustainability and independence of naval operations.

A notable aspect of the first day was the interaction with the management of the Nigerian Navy Secondary School and the Naval Medical Centre in Borokiri. These institutions exemplify the Navy’s broader societal impact, extending essential services like education and healthcare to civilians in their host communities. The Navy’s commitment to civil-military relations was recently demonstrated through free medical rhapsodies, benefiting over 1,500 individuals in Rivers State as part of the 2025 Navy Week celebrations. Senator Daniel lauded these initiatives, promising legislative support to enhance their services.

Thursday, July 24, 2025, marked the continuation of the committee’s rigorous assessment, beginning at the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) in Ebubu-Eleme. Rear Admiral R.O. Obeya, Flag Officer Commanding, and Rear Admiral H.S. Zego, Commandant of the Nigerian Navy College, received the delegation. Briefings here focused on the rigorous training protocols and academic programs designed to equip naval personnel with the necessary skills to address contemporary maritime security challenges. The Senate acknowledged their achievements and requests, promising to address institutional concerns that could hinder optimal performance.

The committee then visited the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School (NNBTS) in Onne, where naval recruits undergo fundamental training. The Commandant, Rear Admiral V.D. Choji, provided insights into the training curriculum, and the committee was conducted on a tour to observe the state of infrastructure.

A brief stop at the Naval Medical Centre co-located within NNBTS further reinforced the Navy’s commitment to personnel welfare.

A significant leg of Day 2 involved a “brave trip by sea” aboard NNS Badagry to Bonny Island to inspect the Naval Forward Operating Base (FOB). Navy Capt. Emmanuel Fingesi received the team, briefing them on the FOB’s operational exploits and challenges in securing the strategic waterways around Bonny. The Bonny FOB plays a critical role in maritime surveillance and interdiction in a sensitive economic zone. Senator Daniel commended the base’s operational discipline and assured them of legislative attention to their needs.

The delegation returned to Port Harcourt, concluding an eventful day. Senators Khalid Ibrahim, Tony Nwoye, Kelvin Chukwu, and Okey Ezea were part of the day’s entourage.

The commandant of the Nigerian Navy Hydrographic School, Port Harcourt, Capt. OS Giwa, led his team to present their briefing before the departure of the Senate Committee on Friday.

Across all visited formations, common themes emerged, primarily related to the challenges of insufficient funding, the need for modern infrastructure, and the continuous maintenance of naval platforms. Despite these, the Nigerian Navy in Rivers State has demonstrated significant achievements in combating maritime criminality, particularly illegal refining and crude oil theft. Their efforts, bolstered by modern surveillance systems like the Falcon Eye and Regional Maritime Awareness Capacity Systems, have contributed to a significant reduction in piracy incidents and improved legitimate shipping activities, contributing to Nigeria’s maintained “zero-piracy” status by the International Maritime Bureau.

Senator Daniel, on behalf of the committee, consistently commended the leadership and personnel of the various formations for their dedication and achievements. He reiterated the Senate’s commitment to prompt legislative actions to address the challenges identified, which are crucial for optimizing the Navy’s operations. The Rivers State Government has also reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with security agencies, emphasizing the critical role of modern technology in safeguarding national assets and promoting economic growth.

The successful conclusion of this oversight visit signifies a vital step in strengthening the synergy between the legislative arm and the Nigerian Navy. The insights gained will undoubtedly inform future policy decisions and budgetary allocations, aiming to further enhance the Navy’s capabilities in fulfilling its mandate of securing Nigeria’s vital maritime domain and ensuring the safety and development of its coastal communities. Nollywood: Lizzy Anjorin, Iyabo Ojo at War Again Over Priscilla’s Pregnancy Announcement

Nollywood: Lizzy Anjorin, Iyabo Ojo at War Again Over Priscilla’s Pregnancy Announcement

The long-standing feud between Nollywood actresses Lizzy Anjorin and Iyabo Ojo has once again exploded into public view — this time over the pregnancy announcement of Iyabo’s daughter, Priscilla Ojo.

Newsheadline247 gathered that Priscilla, who is expecting her first child with Tanzanian singer Juma Jux, recently broke the news on Instagram with a series of stunning maternity photos.

Priscilla with Husband Juma Jux in a pre-wedding picture

While the announcement was met with excitement from fans and fellow celebrities, the silence from Lizzy Anjorin sparked fresh controversy.

Critics accused Lizzy of being envious and bitter for not congratulating Priscilla, a reaction that led to a fiery video response from the actress. In the now-viral clip, Lizzy lashed out at Iyabo Ojo and her family, making disturbing remarks that included wishes of harm.

“If she gives birth to 20 children, they will all perish. Iyabo is a disgraceful human being,” Lizzy said in her outburst, triggering outrage across social media.

She also took aim at online trolls, accusing them of double standards and unfairly judging her silence given her rocky past with Iyabo.

In a swift and measured response, Iyabo Ojo addressed the situation on her own social media page, urging for peace but warning that she would no longer tolerate attacks directed at her or her children.

“If anything happens to me or my children, hold Lizzy responsible,” she stated firmly.

Iyabo referenced previous incidents where she alleged Lizzy had made defamatory remarks about her and stressed that while she seeks no confrontation, she is ready to pursue legal action if the threats continue.

A Feud Rekindled

The Anjorin-Ojo rivalry has spanned years in the Nollywood industry, marked by accusations, public insults, and legal threats. However, this latest episode — involving a personal moment in Iyabo’s family — has stirred widespread concern and condemnation from fans and fellow actors.

While some have called on the pair to resolve their differences privately, others are urging regulatory bodies and the Actors Guild to intervene to prevent further escalation.

As the war of words continues to trend online, many in the industry are calling for restraint, maturity, and above all — the protection of the young woman at the center of the storm.

For now, all eyes remain on how the two stars — and their fans — will handle the next act in this unending rivalry. Read More

Tinubu’s Policies are reviving the Private Sector, Says Dangote

Tinubu’s Policies are reviving the Private Sector, Says Dangote

… As Trade Minister Affirms FG’s Commitment to Domestic Investors

President/Chief Executive of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a listening president whose policies are restoring private investors’ confidence in Nigeria’s economy.

Dangote made the remarks over the weekend during a visit by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, to the $20 billion Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals and Dangote Fertiliser Limited in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

Commending President Tinubu’s efforts at addressing the issue of crude supply challenges to domestic refineries, Dangote praised the Naira-for-Crude initiative and the Nigeria First policy as bold and transformative steps capable of revitalising the economy faster than expected.

“I believe we must sincerely thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for ensuring that there have been improvements in the supply of crude oil. His insistence that all crude oil transactions be conducted in naira has been particularly commendable. For us to effectively meet market demand—which we can do—it is essential that crude is priced and purchased in our local currency,” he said.

The leading industrialist noted that these initiatives, along with other economic reforms, have brought a measure of stability to the naira-to-dollar exchange rate. He expressed optimism that the naira would continue to strengthen in the coming weeks as the effects of the reforms become more visible. According to him, the improved market predictability has helped investors make sound business decisions and restored confidence in the investment climate.

“We are also beginning to see some stability in the naira-to-dollar exchange rate, which has had a positive impact. There is now less fluctuation, and this has brought a degree of predictability to the market

“For those of us in the business sector, this is a welcome development, as it allows us to plan more effectively. Looking ahead, as market conditions continue to improve, we can expect to see a more favourable exchange rate,” he said

Dangote also commended the Federal Government for establishing a One-Stop Shop (OSS) initiative to improve coordination among regulatory and security agencies, thereby facilitating smoother operations under the Naira-for-Crude programme. He emphasized that the OSS had significantly reduced bottlenecks and enabled the real-time resolution of issues, in line with President Tinubu’s directive.

“The administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has established a One-Stop Shop that is working diligently. I am confident that the government intends to replicate this model in other sectors, particularly to streamline the clearing of goods—an essential area of business.

“At present, we are not experiencing any significant issues with loading. All the relevant agencies have been brought together under one roof, including the Navy, NIMASA, NPA, and others. This coordination has greatly improved efficiency. Whenever issues arise, they are promptly addressed through the leadership of the Chairman of the Technical Committee, Mr Zack Adedeji, who is doing an excellent job.”

The business magnate further disclosed that the refinery is set to launch a new initiative involving the deployment of 4,000 CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) tankers to distribute petroleum products more efficiently and in an environmentally friendly manner. He explained that the move would reduce logistics costs and ensure Nigerians receive products at more affordable prices, closer to their locations.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, reaffirmed the FG’s commitment to promoting domestic investment and addressing the challenges faced by local investors.

“We are here today as a result of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s clear focus on domestic investment. As you are aware, we held a Domestic Investment Summit on Monday—the first of its kind. Today, we are gathered at the invitation of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, a leading investor who has committed an extraordinary amount of resources to Nigeria’s development,” she said.

Dr Oduwole hailed the refinery as a landmark project, noting that even governments shy away from initiatives of such scale. She said the administration is demonstrating real support for domestic investors by taking practical steps to reduce constraints and foster growth.

“He has taken on a project of such magnitude—one that even governments often hesitate to undertake. As an administration, we do not take this lightly. We are here to show our full support for him, both as a foremost domestic investor and as a prominent champion of African investment on the global stage.

“Our support is not limited to words; we are demonstrating our commitment through action. We are encouraging other domestic investors by recognising and backing those, like Alhaji Dangote, who put Nigeria first. This is not mere rhetoric—our time, attention, and effort are fully aligned with our priorities.

“That is why we have dedicated an entire day to immersing ourselves in this project—the Dangote Refinery.”

She added that the Federal Government is continuously engaging with stakeholders and reviewing regulatory and legislative frameworks to reduce business costs and stimulate industrial development. Read More

Details: “North Not Neglected Under Tinubu” – Presidency Tells Kwankwaso, Highlights Multiple Projects

Details: “North Not Neglected Under Tinubu” – Presidency Tells Kwankwaso, Highlights Multiple Projects

The Presidency on Thursday firmly pushed back against accusations by former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, alleging that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is sidelining Northern Nigeria in the execution of federal projects.

Brandishing figures, photographs, and detailed project breakdowns, top federal officials dismissed Kwankwaso’s claims as misleading and unfounded.

Senator Kwankwaso, you are wrong. North not neglected; President Tinubu has the North covered, stated Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, via his verified X handle @SundayDareSD.

Dare listed 43 federal projects spanning critical sectors, including roads, railways, energy, housing, agriculture, health, and education—all underway or completed across Northern Nigeria.

To reinforce this, Housing and Urban Development Minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, along with Minister of State Abdullahi Yusuf Atah, visited Kano to showcase visible developments under the Renewed Hope City (RHC) and Renewed Hope Housing Estate (RHHE), highlighting completed housing units, paved roads, drainage systems, water supply, and electrification efforts.

Minister of Works David Umahi also weighed in, releasing a comprehensive list of road projects under his ministry and stating that the Tinubu-led government has “been fair to all parts of the country in the distribution of infrastructure.”

The Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, condemned Kwankwaso’s remarks as “alarmist rhetoric,” accusing the former governor of distorting facts in a calculated attempt to tarnish the President’s image.
“His criticism is not only grossly misleading but a deliberate effort to misrepresent the administration’s commitment to national development,” Afenifere said in a statement.

Among the key projects highlighted in the northern region are:

  • Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Expressway
  • Sokoto–Badagry Expressway
  • Sokoto–Zamfara–Katsina Expressway

With mounting evidence on display, federal officials are calling for a more accurate and balanced public discourse, insisting that Northern Nigeria remains a top priority in the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.

Housing ministers inspect FG estates in Kano, express satisfaction

Ahmed Dangiwa, an architect, and Yusuf Atah, a Kano native, were conducted round the estate by the site engineers.

Speaking to reporters at the end of the inspection, the Housing Minister expressed satisfaction at the quality of work.

“We have seen that the work is ongoing and confirmed that the quality is standard according to specifications,” he said.

“Today, we have given the contractors a time limit – to complete the project in the next six weeks.

“We want to ensure we commission this project by the end of August and start selling the houses to the Nigerian public who are interested.

“There are no modifications due to the fact that we have the state controller of Housing who is doing a thorough supervision and gathering intelligence on the projects. And we are happy with the quality, pace and level of completion.

“From the look of things, the remaining things are internal fittings, electrification and water.”

Kwankwaso’s claims absolutely false, self-serving,says Umahi

Works Minister Umahi gave a breakdown of the road projects being executd by his ministry across the country and said:

“ Senator Kwankwaso’s claim that President Tinubu’s administration is marginalizing the North in road infrastructure development is absolutely false, misleading, and self-serving.

“ As Minister of Works, I have verified facts to prove otherwise.

“The four legacy projects of President Tinubu demonstrate a commitment to fairness and equity:

 – Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway: 175km ongoing (South)

 – Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway: 378km ongoing (North)

– Trans Sahara road: 118km ongoing in Ebonyi State (South)

 – Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe road: redesigned and ongoing (North)

“ In these projects, the North has 52% and the South has 48%.

“ Moreover, ongoing projects in the North include:

 – Sokoto-Zamfara-Katsina-Kaduna road: 275km dualized, ₦824 billion

 – Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road: 350km dualized, ₦764 billion

– BUA Tax Credit road: 256km dualized, Jigawa-Katsina-Kano

 – Kano Northern Bypass: 49km

– Other projects in Borno, Kebbi, Benue, and Kogi states

“ In contrast, major ongoing projects in the South include:

 – Completion of Lagos-Ibadan expressway

– Completion of Lagos-Sagamu road – Oyo-Ogbomoso-Ilorin road

– Repairs of Carter bridge, Third Mainland bridge, and Eko bridge

 – Projects in South East and South-South regions

“ I will publish a comprehensive list of ongoing projects next week, including those above N20 billion. President Tinubu is committed to developing every part of the country with fairness and equity.

“Senator Kwankwaso’s statement is divisive and misleading. I challenge him to a debate to set the records straight.”

Tinubu not marginalising North, Afenifere slams Kwankwaso

Afenifere, in a statement in Akure, Ondo State by its National Organising Secretary, Otunba Kole Omololu, said Kwankwaso’s statement was not only grossly misleading but also deliberately incendiary.

It said that contrary to Kwankwaso’s claim, no region has benefitted more from concentrated federal presence over the past decade than the North.

It said the south has also at one time or the other suffered neglect and cited the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the Second Niger Bridge, which it said were left uncompleted for many years.

“But less than two years into President Tinubu’s administration, Kwankwaso is crying foul,” Afenifere said.

Afenifere added that Kwankwaso may be unaware that the Tinubu administration has initiated and awarded several critical infrastructure projects in the North, including the dualisation of the Kano-Maiduguri Road, Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega Road, and the Abuja-Keffi-Lafia corridor.

Others are: the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline, neglected by past regimes, is being fast tracked.

“Just last week, President Tinubu approved billions of naira for infrastructure projects in Katsina, Borno and Niger states,” it said.

Describing Kwankwaso’s comments as “alarmist rhetoric,” Afenifere warned that such statements not only distort the truth but could also inflame regional tensions.

Continuing, Afenifere said: “Development is a gradual process, and Tinubu has not yet reached the halfway mark of his term. By 2027, and indeed by 2031, every region, including the North will feel the impact of this administration.

“We must rise above ethnic saboteurs and sectional agitators masquerading as patriots. Let statesmen, not ethnic lords, shape the national conversation.”

Kwankwaso, speaking during the Kano State Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the 2025 Constitutional Amendment on Thursday, had claimed that “most of the national budget is now tilting in one direction in this country.”

Kwankwaso said most roads in the north remained in deplorable conditions while the federal government continued to allocate lump budgetary allocations for infrastructural development in the southern region.

“We are told that there is a road from the South to the East. We support infrastructure anywhere in this country…and any other thing that is good for the masses, but a situation where government is taking our resources and dumping it in one part of the country and other parts of the country are left just like that, I don’t believe that is the right thing to do by the government itself,” Kwankwaso had said.
