Dangote Refinery’s Fuel Distribution Plan, A Boost To CNG Initiative – Presidency

PCNGI and the Dangote Group are partnering to deepen CNG technology in Nigeria

Dangote Refinery’s Fuel Distribution Plan, A Boost To CNG Initiative – Presidency

The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) has welcomed the Dangote Refinery’s fuel distribution plan that will see it deploy 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks across Nigeria.

Speaking to newsmen on the sideline of the just concluded West Africa Economic Summit (WAES) in Abuja, Commercial Coordinator, Tosin Coker, said: “This is a landmark development, and a bold vote of confidence in Nigeria’s gas-powered transportation future.

“Dangote Group’s decision to acquire 4,000 CNG trucks is not just significant in scale, it is also deeply strategic. It sends a powerful signal to the market that CNG is no longer a future aspiration but a present-day solution to energy cost, emissions, and supply chain risks. PCNGI welcomes this development and views it as a defining milestone in our effort to mainstream gas-powered transport in Nigeria.”

Mr. Coker said the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative is structured to drive adoption, catalyse investment, drive innovation, and accelerate Nigeria’s transition to cleaner, cheaper, and more sustainable transport fuels.

According to him, PCNGI and the Dangote Group are partnering to deepen CNG technology in Nigeria.

He added: “We see the Dangote Group as a cornerstone partner in achieving nationwide penetration of CNG technology, particularly in the haulage and industrial logistics space. Our partnership will focus on regulatory support for their CNG vehicle and daughter station rollout where required, as well as technical alignment to ensure all infrastructure meets safety, design, and interoperability standards.

He said the Initiative has made significant inroads over the past year, with almost 300 conversion centres nationally, many of which are handling private conversions too, adding that in terms of accessibility, there are conversion centres in at least 20 states of the federation and the number of refueling stations is increasing every week.

Mr. Coker said the Presidential Initiative has a target to reach every local government area and certainly 1000 refueling stations by 2027.

In terms of affordability, he said it is working with various banks and financing partners including Credicorp to make the cost of conversion affordable to civil servants, lecturers and teachers and all tax-paying Nigerians through efforts like the CALM Fund, whereby payments for kits and conversions can be spread out over time.

He added that many conversion centres were also offering their own solutions in partnership with their finance partners.

“Globally, millions of vehicles run on CNG, with decades of proven safety records in countries as diverse as India, Iran, Poland, Brazil, and Argentina. CNG cylinders are built to withstand very high pressure, rigorously tested, and equipped with multiple safety features,” he said.

He said in the event of a leak, CNG, being lighter than air, disperses quickly, reducing the risk of fire. In contrast, petrol pools and ignites more easily. Adding that the ignition temperature of CNG at close to 600 deg C is far higher than that of petrol.

“Through PCNGI, we have instituted strict safety, training, and certification protocols for conversion centres, refuelling stations, and vehicle operators in line with international best practices and in collaboration with regulators like the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

“The upcoming Nigeria Gas Vehicle Monitoring System (NGVMS), which is a comprehensive inter-agency safety and regulatory system will ensure additional protection for all users and the general public,” he said.

Dangote Refinery recently announced it was investing in the procurement of 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers.

Rare Photos: Inside Adedayo’s Soulful Salute To Sanwo-Olu At 60 In Timeless Story Of Brotherhood – Report

Their bond outlasted teenage years, growing stronger through adulthood, long-distance, and life’s many transitions

Rare Photos: Inside Adedayo’s Soulful Salute To Sanwo-Olu At 60 In Timeless Story Of Brotherhood – Report

As friends, they met as boys. As brothers, they became inseparable. Now, 49 years later, ace photographer and culture chronicler, Dayo Adedayo, has offered a deeply personal tribute to Lagos governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on his 60th birthday — a tribute that is both a reflection of time and a reminder of timeless friendship.

In a message titled “A Golden Thread of Brotherhood for Oga Jide”, Adedayo shared an emotional narrative that traces their bond from the dusty school fields of Ijebu Ife to the corridors of power in Lagos — a journey built not on ambition or influence, but on loyalty, shared memories, and unbreakable brotherhood.

“It all began on a quiet Sunday, September 5th, 1976,” Adedayo wrote, recalling their first meeting as students at Ijebu Ife Community Grammar School in Ogun state. “You were just 11. I was 12. And in that ordinary moment, an extraordinary journey began.”

From visiting each other’s homes in Surulere and Mushin by 1978 to becoming football pilgrims during holidays — never missing a match at the old UAC football ground or the National Stadium in Lagos — their youth was shaped by shared values and joy.

In one particularly tender memory, Adedayo spoke of Sanwo-Olu’s mother, who worked at Cadbury and treated him like a son. “Through your provisions, I tasted my very first cornflakes and Bournvita,” he recalled. “I came with gari, sugar, and Nido — things you never quite fancied. But in those little differences, our friendship only deepened.”

Their bond outlasted teenage years, growing stronger through adulthood, long-distance, and life’s many transitions. When Adedayo moved abroad in 1987, Sanwo-Olu’s support never wavered — from buying festive rams for Adedayo’s mother to selling shares so Adedayo could return to the UK during a difficult period.

“You never let distance steal our rhythm,” he wrote. “Your children call me ‘Second Daddy.’ Your wife is family.”

Accompanying the tribute is a photograph that speaks louder than words — a captured moment that reflects a friendship aged like fine wine. The image, shared quietly but powerfully, holds the weight of the past and the warmth of the present — two boys who became men, and then family.

“While the memories live on, my face rarely appears. I was always the one making sure yours did,” Adedayo wrote. “And I wouldn’t change a thing. Because every flash of that camera was a celebration of you, of us.”

Gov Babajide Sanwo-Olu

The tribute moves gently from personal memories to public reflection, acknowledging Sanwo-Olu’s rise in leadership but pointing to a deeper legacy.

“People celebrate you not just because you’re a Governor,” he wrote. “They celebrate you because you are ‘Oga Jide’ — a true Omoluabi, a man of honour, of grace, of depth.”

Dayo Adedayo

At 60, Sanwo-Olu is seen through the eyes of a man who knew him long before the office, before the spotlight. A man who calls him “my brother, my hero, my twin soul.”

“As you step into your 60s,” the tribute concludes, “may God crown you with greater peace, deeper wisdom, and everlasting joy. May your light never dim. May your legacy rise higher than the tallest mountain.”

In a world of political optics and public relations, Adedayo’s story is a quiet but powerful reminder that behind the title of governor is a man whose greatest achievement may be the lives he’s touched — starting with one he met on a quiet Sunday in 1976.

Opposition Figures Not Driven by Public Interest but Bitter Over Power Loss, Says Shehu Sani

Opposition Figures Not Driven by Public Interest but Bitter Over Power Loss, Says Shehu Sani

Former federal lawmaker and outspoken activist, Senator Shehu Sani, has taken a swipe at Nigeria’s opposition politicians, accusing them of being motivated not by national interest but by personal frustration, exclusion from power, and failed political ambitions.

Speaking during a guest appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, the former Kaduna Central senator described most opposition leaders as “disgruntled elements” who were once part of the same political establishment they now oppose.

“When you have a group of disgruntled elements who are frustrated and come together, it’s not about the country or the people — it is simply about being excluded from the system,” Sani declared.

He dismissed suggestions that the opposition represents a true ideological alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that both camps are part of the same elite ruling class.

“It’s not that they are now Marxists or trade unionists confronting a capitalist order — they’re all from the same bourgeois political class,” he said.

“They use every opportunity to weaponise our challenges and present themselves as a better alternative, but many of them have been in power since 1999.”

Sani’s comments appear to target political heavyweights like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has been intensifying efforts to forge a strong opposition coalition against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Atiku, who has unsuccessfully contested for the presidency six times, has in recent months been in talks with notable figures, including Labour Party’s Peter Obi and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

However, Senator Sani cast doubt on the sincerity of these efforts, suggesting that such coalitions are less about rescuing Nigeria and more about regaining lost political influence.

Sani’s criticism adds a new layer to the growing debate over the credibility of Nigeria’s political opposition, especially amid widespread economic hardship and public discontent with the current administration. Read More

Adamawa Govt Strips Ex-Vice President Atiku of Wazirin Title Over Indigeneship Rule

Adamawa Govt Strips Ex-Vice President Atiku of Wazirin Title Over Indigeneship Rule

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been stripped of his revered traditional title of Wazirin Adamawa, following a new directive issued by the Adamawa State Government enforcing strict indigeneship rules for traditional council members.

Atiku, who was turbaned as the seventh Waziri of the Adamawa Emirate in November 2018 by the Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo, was elevated from his previous title of Turaki Adamawa, a position that had made him a senior member of the Emirate Council.

However, under a circular dated June 19 and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Chieftaincy Affairs, Adama Felicity Mamman, the government directed all emirate and chiefdom councils to immediately remove any kingmaker or council member who is not an indigene of the specific emirate or chiefdom.

“Following the creation of new Chiefdoms in the State by the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, I am directed to inform you that all Kingmakers and Council members in the state must be indigenes of their Chiefdoms,” the circular reads.

The circular issued by Adamawa State Government

It specifically lists the districts considered indigenous to each emirate and notes:

“With the content of this Circular, all Kingmakers and Council members who are not indigenes of the Chiefdoms have been relieved of their appointments.”

Although the circular provides that those holding only traditional titles without council roles can retain their titles, Atiku’s position as Waziri inherently made him a council member, which means the directive would strip him of the role.

Atiku, a native of Jada in Ganye Emirate, is therefore not considered indigenous to the Adamawa Emirate based in Yola, which covers Yola South, Yola North, Girei, Mayo-Belwa, Song, and Zumo districts.

Asked how the new directive affects Atiku specifically, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the clarification could only come from the Lamido of Adamawa himself.

“Alhaji Atiku Abubakar lives in Yola and is a registered voter there, so only the Lamido can determine his indigeneship status,” Wonosikou said.

He further clarified that the directive wasn’t new:

“The governor gave the directive when he presented the staff of office to the emirs and chiefs of the newly created emirates and chiefdoms early this year. This circular is just a formal implementation step.”

Wonosikou also dismissed growing speculations about a rift between Governor Fintiri and Atiku, stating:

“There is no rift between them.”

The Adamawa State Government had in December created seven new emirates and chiefdoms, bringing the total number of traditional councils in the state to 14. The directive to localize council membership is part of the implementation of the Adamawa State Chiefs (Appointment and Deposition) and Matters Incidental Thereto Law, passed in December 2023.

When contacted on Tuesday night, Paul Ibe, media adviser to Atiku Abubakar, said he had no knowledge of the development, a report by Premium Times NG said.

“I am not aware of any such policy affecting the Waziri title,” he said.

It was also gathered that as of press time, the Lamido of Adamawa has not issued any public statement on the matter. Read More

Tinubu Celebrates Sanwo-Olu at 60, Hails Lagos Rail Projects, Urges Continuity in Transformation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, applauding his achievements in infrastructure and urban development while urging him to sustain the pace of transformative governance.

In a statement released Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised Sanwo-Olu’s leadership and dedication to Lagos’s development, describing him as “a loyal mentee and a diligent executor” of the state’s long-term development vision.

“Your execution of this vision is exemplified by landmark achievements, including completing the Blue and Red Rail lines and the ongoing preparations for the Purple Line, which will serve the vital Lekki corridor,” the President noted, highlighting the continuation of Lagos’s Strategic Master Plan initiated during his own tenure as governor between 1999 and 2007.

Tinubu emphasized the need to maintain the momentum, encouraging Governor Sanwo-Olu to push forward on legacy-defining infrastructure projects.

“I urge you to sustain this trajectory by prioritising impactful projects for Lagosians, notably the long-awaited Fourth Mainland Bridge and the Freedom Way to Victoria Garden City (VGC) Road,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu, who turned 60 on Wednesday, began his journey in public service under Tinubu’s administration and has held several key roles in the Lagos State Government. His past positions include Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos State Property Development Corporation and commissioner roles in Economic Planning and Budget, Commerce and Industry, and Establishments, Training, and Pensions.

Tinubu acknowledged the governor’s steady rise and consistent alignment with the vision of transforming Lagos into a globally competitive megacity.

“I also wish you continued good health, longevity, and many more years of invaluable service to Lagos State and Nigeria,” the President concluded.

Dangote Cement EBITDA Records Over N1 Trillion, Declares N30 Dividend Per Share

Dangote Cement EBITDA Records Over N1 Trillion, Declares N30 Dividend Per Share

For the first time since its inception, Dangote Cement Group’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) reached an all-time milestone of N1,382.0 billion, crossing the N1 trillion mark, an increase of 56 per cent. In the same vein, Earnings per share also increased by 12.3 per cent to N29.74 as against 2023’s record of N26.47.

Unanimously, the shareholders approved a dividend payout of N30 per share to all investors, totaling N502.6 billion.

Chairman of the company, Aliko Dangote, while presenting the reports to the shareholders, said the company recorded a N3,580.6 billion revenue, representing a 62.2 per cent year-on-year growth, and that the performance was driven by effective pricing strategies and strong demand recovery in key markets, particularly Nigeria.

The shareholders expressed their full praise for the Board, Management, and staff for the dividend, noting that the decision was in the best interest of the shareholders.

In the same vein, the company also significantly increased its corporate social responsibility (CSR) by 469.8 per cent to N13.2 billion. The CSR activities were in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.

Commenting on the performance of the company, the President of the Association for the Advancement of Rights of Nigerian Shareholders (AARNS), Faruk Umar, said the shareholders were pleased with Aliko Dangote and his team. He said, for the company to still pay a robust dividend despite the obvious economic challenges, which also affected their operations, shows the doggedness and fighting entrepreneurial spirit of the Management.

According to him, “We are happy with this result. 2024 was very challenging due to the fluctuations in the foreign exchange market and the company’s expansion programme. But despite all these challenges, the company was still able to pay us a very good dividend and even gave us hope of better returns on our investments in the years to come. This is very commendable, and it is only a company like Dangote Cement that can achieve this laudable feat.”

Chairperson of the Pragmatic Shareholders Association of Nigeria, Mrs. Bisi Bakare, also commended the company’s consistent dividend payment, noting that the Company is moving in the best way of corporate governance. “As a shareholder and an acute investor of this company, I am very happy and pleased with the performance of our company so far. The earnings are not even up to N30 per share, and for the company to still declare N30 per share dividend speaks volumes of the quality of leadership that we are lucky to have in Dangote Cement…It should also be noted that Dangote Cement is the only manufacturing company that paid the highest dividend in the year under review. So, we are happy and very proud to be part of this company.”

Dangote said the company’s strategy in every country of operation is to be the leader in cost, quality, and service. He said the company builds large, modern, highly efficient plants that combine the latest equipment from Europe, China, and beyond to enable it to make higher-quality cement at lower costs, thereby giving it strong competitive advantages.

Dangote further revealed that the company is set to commission a 3MTA grinding plant in Côte d’Ivoire, this year, as well as a 6MTA integrated plant in Itori, Ogun State. He said another major milestone was the acquisition of 1,500 compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks to replace diesel-fueled vehicles, thereby contributing to both cost savings and environmental impact. Plans, according to him, are underway to double the fleet to 3,000 trucks.

Senator Adeola Yayi Condemns Derogatory Campaigns, Emphasizes Politics of Inclusion

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi and representing Ogun West Senatorial District, has publicly disowned recent derogatory attacks launched by individuals and groups claiming to support him against fellow political office holders in Ogun State.

In a statement released by his media adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, the senator expressed dismay over abusive commentaries and social media posts that have targeted political figures in the state. He made it clear that such actions were not only unauthorized but run contrary to his political values and principles.

“I am greatly disturbed by the derogatory media attacks in some online media and on social media against a honourable member of the parliament by some individuals or groups ostensibly acting to show support and defend me,” Senator Adeola stated.

“I have not mandated anyone or group to attack anyone or act on my behalf on any issue in the public domain in Ogun State.”

The controversy comes amid increasing calls from some of the senator’s supporters for him to vie for the governorship of Ogun State in the 2027 elections under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Their aggressive online campaign, however, recently drew public criticism after a political officeholder expressed concern over the tone and language used by the so-called loyalists.

Reacting to a strongly worded rebuttal issued by one such group, Senator Adeola categorically disassociated himself from the publication and condemned the use of abusive rhetoric. He stressed the need for his supporters to reflect maturity and civility in all public engagements.

“I completely disassociate myself from such deeds as they are not in my style of politics or governance,” he emphasized.

While expressing appreciation for the support he continues to receive from admirers and political associates, Senator Adeola urged his base to engage constructively and avoid actions that might threaten party unity or disrupt the political climate of the state.

As the current leader of the Ogun State Caucus in the National Assembly, Senator Adeola reaffirmed his commitment to fostering synergy with Governor Dapo Abiodun and other elected officials at both state and federal levels in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Let all my supporters know that I have not mandated them to attack anyone on my behalf. I believe in politics of inclusion and will never close the door on any perceived opponents or fellow party members, as they are likely supporters in the future,” he added.

The senator further clarified that there is no internal crisis among the state’s political leadership to justify such public altercations, reiterating his stand against any form of divisive or combative rhetoric.

He concluded by calling on his followers to focus on unity, developmental dialogue, and inclusive political engagement as the state moves toward the next electoral cycle. Read More

Dapo Abiodun Hit by Fresh Legal Defeat as Appeal Court Strikes Out Ogun Govt’s Frivolous Bid Over Datkem Plaza Demolition

0

In another stinging legal defeat for the Ogun State Government under Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan has on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, struck out yet another application filed by the Ogun State Government (OGSG) in the ongoing legal battle over the controversial demolition of DATKEM Plaza in Ijebu Ode — a commercial property owned by Mrs. Olufunke Daniel, wife of former governor and serving senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

The appeal, marked CA/IB/M.110/2025, was an application by the OGSG seeking an extension of time to appeal a previous ruling.

However, the Appellate Court dismissed the application as incompetent, frivolous, and an abuse of judicial process, striking a sharp rebuke at the Abiodun-led administration’s relentless attempts to frustrate the wheels of justice.

This latest court decision marks the second time this year that the state government’s legal maneuvers in the matter have been thrown out.

A similar application was struck out on February 11, 2025, prompting critics and legal observers to accuse the government of deliberately engaging in delay tactics to avoid accountability.

Despite the back-to-back judicial setbacks, the Ogun State Government still has three other appeals pending: CA/IB/118/2024, CA/IB/154/2024, and CA/IB/155/2024. *”All three Appeals, prosecuted at the public expense and using Tax Payers funds.”*

These cases continue to hang as the state, according to senior legal experts, deploys “classic tactics of attrition” aimed at dragging the matter endlessly through the court system. The judiciary, in its various remarks during proceedings, has not hidden its displeasure at what it considers deliberate stalling and judicial abuse.

It would be recalled that the storm started in September 2023, when operatives of the Ogun State Government under the direct order of Governor Dapo Abiodun illegally demolished DATKEM Plaza, a five-storey commercial building located in the heart of Ijebu Ode.

The structure, which was in the final stages of completion and had obtained necessary approvals and compliance documents from relevant authorities, was razed in the early hours of the day in a move many described as vindictive, politically motivated, and devoid of due process.

Despite public outrage and the submission of documents proving that the building was lawfully constructed, the Abiodun administration defended the action, citing spurious claims of regulatory violations.

However, multiple independent investigations and court filings have since exposed the administration’s position as hollow, prompting widespread criticism from civil society, legal practitioners, and political observers.

Since the demolition, Mrs. Olufunke Daniel has dragged the state government to court, seeking redress for what she described as unlawful destruction, economic sabotage, and targeted harassment.

The Ogun State High Court initially granted her reliefs, including injunctions restraining further actions by the government, but the state refused to back down — instead embarking on a legal marathon riddled with questionable applications and procedural bottlenecks.

The repeated dismissals by the Appeal Court now underscore a growing perception that Governor Abiodun’s government is not just unwilling to take responsibility for its actions but is also intent on weaponizing the legal system to exhaust and frustrate its critics.

The repeated legal losses and what is now viewed as a malicious vendetta against a prominent citizen of the state have sparked backlash from the public and political stakeholders.

Many see the continued persecution of the Daniel family as part of an unending rivalry between political blocs within Ogun State, with the Abiodun administration accused of deploying state machinery for personal and political retribution.

Analysts say the outcome of the pending appeals — and whether the judiciary will eventually hold the government accountable — will shape the legacy of Governor Abiodun’s administration as either one that upheld the rule of law or trampled it under the weight of political vendettas.

For now, the tide appears to be turning against him, as the courts continue to reject what they increasingly label as frivolous, desperate, and legally indefensible actions.

2027: ‘Opposition Coalition Is Not a Joke – Atiku Vows to Unveil Powerful Opposition Force

The coalition is “more than just a political arrangement” but a “deliberate movement to recover and rebuild Nigeria

2027: ‘Opposition Coalition Is Real, Not a Joke – Atiku Vows to Unveil Powerful Opposition Force

Former Vice President 2027 and presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that a robust and credible opposition coalition is in the works—and it will be unveiled soon.

Speaking during a high-level meeting on Monday with prominent stakeholders from Kannywood and key northern opinion leaders, Atiku described the emerging alliance as a serious, strategic movement aimed at rescuing Nigeria from what he termed failed leadership.

“The opposition coalition is not a joke. It is real, and it will be unveiled soon,” Atiku said confidently.

The visiting delegation, led by Zamfara political figure Dr. Aslam Aliyu—convener of the PAA 2027 New Media & Digital Communications Forum—consisted of influential northern voices, including Kannywood actors and members of the elite Zamfara Top 10. The group is playing a central role in mobilizing new media forces across the North West to rally support for the anticipated opposition front.

According to Atiku, the coalition is “more than just a political arrangement” but a “deliberate movement to recover and rebuild Nigeria in line with the genuine yearnings and aspirations of its people.”

He stressed that the 2027 elections must not repeat the mistakes of 2023, which the delegation described as a wake-up call. “I assured the forum that 2027 will not be business as usual,” Atiku said.

Members of the delegation reportedly admitted past support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 bid—support they now regret. They bluntly described the resulting leadership as “incompetent and clueless” and vowed to rally behind the new opposition effort.

Atiku praised their honesty and said their resolve further energizes the coalition’s mission. “I charged them to take their commitment seriously and enlighten the people on the need to embrace the ongoing efforts to recover and rebuild Nigeria for the good of the majority,” he stated.

While acknowledging the deepening national crises—ranging from worsening insecurity to economic despair—Atiku maintained that the incoming opposition alliance has both the vision and the capacity to address the issues plaguing the nation.

The meeting signals growing momentum among digital political influencers and Northern political actors coalescing around a united front to challenge the current administration and present a formidable alternative in 2027. Read More
