Nigeria Customs Reaffirms Intelligence Sharing, Border Security Collaboration with Defence Intelligence Officers

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led operations and stronger collaboration among security agencies as part of efforts to combat emerging security threats and safeguard Nigeria’s borders.

The renewed commitment came as the Kano/Jigawa Area Command hosted participants of Defence Intelligence Officers’ Course 22/2026 on a national study tour in Kano, underscoring the growing importance of coordinated intelligence in preventing national crises and enhancing border security.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Chief Superintendent of Customs Tahir Balarabe, and made available to journalists on Friday, June 27, 2026, the study tour was held on Tuesday, June 23, under the theme, “Operational Intelligence for National Crisis Prevention and Response.”

Welcoming the delegation at the Command Headquarters, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Usman Adamu, described the visit as timely, stressing that effective intelligence sharing remains one of the country’s most reliable tools for protecting national security while facilitating legitimate trade.

He said, “The Command would continue to work closely with sister security agencies in safeguarding the country’s borders and supporting government fiscal policies.

Speaking on behalf of the Commandant of the Defence Intelligence College, Group Captain Abdulaziz Adisa explained that Kano was deliberately selected as a strategic location for the study tour because of its operational relevance to national security.

He stated, “One of the aims of this tour is to collaborate with NCS and identify lessons that could strengthen national crisis prevention and response.”

During the engagement, participants received a technical presentation from the Acting Deputy Comptroller in charge of Enforcement, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Muhammad Zanna, who outlined the Command’s intelligence-driven enforcement strategies, border security operations, inter-agency partnerships and the operational challenges confronting the Service. He also highlighted measures being implemented to strengthen enforcement capabilities and improve information sharing among security agencies.

Responding on behalf of the participants, Defence Intelligence Officer Abdullahi Abubakar expressed appreciation to the Kano/Jigawa Area Command for its warm reception and detailed operational briefing, describing the engagement as both enriching and valuable in achieving the objectives of the Defence Intelligence Officers’ Course.

The visit further reinforces the Nigeria Customs Service’s drive to deepen strategic partnerships with sister security agencies as intelligence-led operations continue to play a central role in addressing evolving security challenges, preventing cross-border crimes and strengthening Nigeria’s national security architecture.
