Falconets Fly High: Nigeria Beats Senegal 2-1, Books Ticket to Final Qualifier for Poland 2026
Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, powered through a tough second-leg challenge to defeat Senegal 2-1 on Saturday night, sealing a commanding 3-1 aggregate victory in the third round of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
Head coach Moses Aduku’s side, who narrowly won the first leg 1-0 in Abeokuta last weekend, showed composure and clinical finishing to wrap up the tie in Dakar.
The breakthrough came early in the 18th minute when Kindness Ifeanyi—the heroine of the first leg—rose highest to powerfully head home and give Nigeria a crucial away lead.
The Falconets doubled their advantage in the 68th minute through another set-piece masterclass: Precious Oscar connected cleanly from a corner to make it 2-0 on the night and 3-0 on aggregate.
Senegal fought back late, pulling one goal back near the end to reduce the deficit, but it was too little, too late as Nigeria held firm to book their place in the final qualifying round.
Up next for the Falconets is a two-legged showdown against Malawi. The winner on aggregate will earn one of Africa’s coveted slots at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, set to take place in Poland in September.
With momentum firmly on their side, the young Super Falcons prospects will now turn their focus to the decisive tie as they chase a return to the global stage.
