On Sunday, Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, was taken back into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) after being granted permission on Saturday to visit his personal doctors.
The Federal High Court in Abuja on July 20 ordered the DSS to grant Kanu access to his personal physicians, dismissing the DSS objection to the prayer.
IPOB has reported that Kanu may be experiencing an ear infection and requires surgery.
During a press briefing, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the legal representative of the IPOB leader, revealed that Kanu, who has been in detention since 2021, has been returned to custody after receiving medical attention from his personal physicians.
Ejiofor said: “He has been attended to, and after preliminary examinations, he was taken back.”
The lawyer, however, declined further comments on his health conditions, among others.
The IPOB counsel had tweeted on Saturday that Kanu met with his personal doctors in a hospital in Abuja outside the facility of the DSS.
According to Ejiofor, he observed the medical examination and found it to be smooth and beneficial.
