NSA Ribadu Reacts to El-Rufai’s TV Jabs, Refuses to Engage in Public Spat

National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has broken his silence over comments made by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, during a recent television interview. In a press release issued today, Ribadu stated that he would not engage in a public dispute with El-Rufai, emphasizing his commitment to his current national duties under the President Bola Tinubu administration.

Ribadu’s response comes after El-Rufai’s televised remarks, which reportedly targeted the National Security Adviser. While Ribadu did not specify the exact nature of El-Rufai’s comments, he made it clear that he would not be drawn into a media confrontation.

“If my silence wouldn’t risk being construed as consent, I would have ignored him,” Ribadu stated. “I am too preoccupied with my current assignment to get into a media fight with Nasir El-Rufai or anyone else.”

Ribadu also highlighted his longstanding policy of refraining from public criticism of El-Rufai, citing respect for their past association and their families. “Despite the incessant baiting and attacks, I have never spoken ill of Nasir on record anywhere. I will not start today,” he said.

The National Security Adviser urged the public to disregard El-Rufai’s statements, dismissing them as baseless. He also took the opportunity to address speculation about his political ambitions, firmly denying any discussions about running for president in 2031.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I want to put it on record that I have never discussed running for president in 2031 with anybody,” Ribadu declared. “All my focus and energy are geared completely towards the advancement of Nigeria and the success of the President Tinubu administration.”

Ribadu concluded by calling on El-Rufai to allow him to concentrate on his “onerous national assignment,” just as he does not interfere with El-Rufai’s affairs.

The statement underscores Ribadu’s determination to remain focused on his role as National Security Adviser, steering clear of political distractions. It also reflects the ongoing tensions between the two prominent figures, who were once allies but have since taken divergent paths in Nigeria’s political landscape.

As the situation unfolds, observers are keen to see whether El-Rufai will respond to Ribadu’s remarks or if the matter will be laid to rest. For now, Ribadu has made it clear that his priority remains the security and stability of Nigeria under the Tinubu administration.
