This situation is the latest chapter in the ongoing nearly three-year struggle for supremacy between MC Oluomo and Baruwa who is making efforts to secure a second term as NURTW President

NURTW Leadership Standoff: MC Oluomo Sits Tight as President, Says “I Am Ready to Face All Challenges”

Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, is determined to maintain his new role as President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). He was elected to this position just one day after his predecessor, Ibikunle Baruwa, received a Court of Appeal judgment affirming his continued tenure in office.

MC Oluomo claimed he was unaware of the Court of Appeal ruling and stated that he was not involved in the case that led to this decision. Baruwa obtained the judgment on November 8, 2024, while MC Oluomo was elected on Saturday, November 9, 2024, and sworn in on Monday, November 11, 2024.

His election was conducted by the southwest delegates of the NURTW, according to the association’s guidelines—a foundation reportedly lacking in Baruwa’s bid for a second term.

Following widespread reports of his potential ouster and a viral video showing his belongings allegedly being removed from his office just three days after the Court’s ruling, MC Oluomo made a strong declaration on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

His statement titled, “IT’S TIME FOR NO DISTRACTIONS!” emphasized his readiness to “tackle all challenges head-on.” The message read:

“Refocused. Recharged. Ready to Rock!
I’m back to work, primed to:
– Tackle ALL challenges head-on
– Crush my goals with precision and passion
– Make today count with purpose and productivity
– Opportunities, obstacles, successes – I’m ready!
– Today’s mindset: FOCUSED, DRIVEN, UNSTOPPABLE
Watch me SOAR! – MC Oluomo”

He shared this proclamation on his social media handle.

This situation is the latest chapter in the ongoing nearly three-year struggle for supremacy between MC Oluomo and Baruwa, who has the support of the Joe Ajaero-led Nigerian Labour Congress in his efforts to secure a second term.

Interestingly, MC Oluomo, the immediate past Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the NURTW, played a key role in helping Baruwa become the National President during his first term in 2019. More
