African Democratic Congress (ADC) Gubernatorial candidate in Ogun state, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, GNI, has commiserated with the monarch of Owode-Yewa town, Oba Akindele JP and good the people of Owode-Yewa town over the death of five person in the area who were killed by rampaging operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday.

In a statement released in Abeokuta the state capital and signed by his spokesperson, Mr. Bolaji Adeniji, Isiaka condemned in totality, the circumstances that led to the death of innocent persons who had gone about their daily activities on the day.

He noted, “I find this saddening and unacceptable that this has to happen to our people. The men of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) have acted in utmost bad faith even while enforcing their constitutional duties”.

“While I do not support the flouting of government rules as it relates to contrabands and prohibited goods by anyone, the agency must go about its duties with respect for the dignity and sanctity of human lives”.

The Guber hopeful was particularly sad that the victims included two pupils that were cut down in their budding age.

Continuing, “Every of the soul lost are precious but the death of kids in this manner is indeed a sobering development which all men of goodwill must rise to condemn”.

“I am aware that there are extant rules which gives the custom officers the powers to pursue or enforce up to a certain distance off the border; but once there is a lax on their part and such goods get into the township, they must exhibit great restraint in rectifying the anomaly.

GNI in the statement called for reforms of enforcement operations by the Customs Service and urged the appropriate authorities to investigate the dastardly act and ensure justice for those affected.

Isiaka while counselling the protesting youths of the town not take laws into their hands but allow the security agencies wade into the matter; also prayed for the repose of the departed souls and the fortitude for their families to bear the huge loss.
