The Ogun State Handball Veterans on Monday kicked off its annual Adetunji Jibowu handball competition for all secondary schools in the state.
The handball veterans in the state with committed members at home and abroad are the sponsors of the statewide tournament.
The collegiate handball contest which is in conjunction with the Ogun State Handball Association is in honour of a late former coach, Adetunji Ajibowu, one of the renowned pioneer handball coaches in Ogun State.
Head, Technical and Chairman of the organizing committee of the competition, Coach Abel Aihonsu, in a chat with our reporter said the competition was designed to engage the school children in sporting activities and as well discover new talents and nurture such to become world-class players for State and country.
According to him, the battle for a place in the quarter-finals commenced today at the zonal levels with actions taking place in Ado-Odo/Ota, Ipokia and Yewa South zones. Other zones where the budding handballers slugged it out with each other on Monday include Ewekoro, Sagamu and Abeokuta.

Aihonsu also informed that quarterfinalists from the ongoing zonal plays offs will meet in Abeokuta and battle for the giant trophy and other bountiful rewards.
The final phase of the 3rd edition of the Adetunji Jibowu handball competition comes up on November 11, 2022, at the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja Stadium, Abeokuta.
In 2021, a revered Ogun school handball powerhouse, Iganmode Grammar School from Otta, roundly defeated all opponents to win the last edition of the competition.
IGS, known nationwide to have etched its name on the sands of time following chains of remarkable feats recorded in the state and national academy competitions, beat Ijemo Titun High School boys to win the male category of the 2021 edition of the tourney to cart home the giant trophy with other mouthwatering prizes.
