Ogun State Ministry and Ijebu Ode Local Government debunk social media rumours alleging suspension of Kakanfo Abimbola Okenla, Lapoekun Tunde Odulaja, and Madasa Lekan Oshifeso.
Ogun Govt Debunks Claims of Suspension of Top Ijebu Chiefs
The Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, alongside the Ijebu Ode Local Government, has firmly dismissed viral social media reports claiming the suspension of three high-ranking Ijebu traditional chiefs, labeling them as completely false and deliberately divisive.
In a joint statement released on Thursday, January 23, 2026, the authorities described the circulating claims as misleading propaganda aimed at stirring confusion and disharmony in Ijebu land—especially amid ongoing discussions around traditional leadership and the Awujale stool succession process.
The statement categorically denied any action against the Kakanfo of Ijebu land, Chief Abimbola Okenla; the Lapoekun of Ijebu land, Chief Tunde Odulaja and the Madasa of Ijebu land, Chief Lekan Oshifeso.
“No such suspension has been effected or approved by any recognised traditional institution or by the Ogun State Government,” the officials declared.
They stressed that chieftaincy affairs follow strict established laws, customs, and due process—none of which have been initiated regarding these respected chiefs.
“Chieftaincy matters are governed by established laws, customs and due process,” the statement added, “none of these procedures has been initiated in respect of the named chiefs.”
The ministry and local government called on the public to completely disregard the reports and depend only on verified official sources for accurate updates.
They warned that spreading unverified information risks undermining peace, stability, and traditional harmony across Ijebu land.
The joint release was signed by: Hon. Dare Alebiosu, Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government, and Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ogun State.
This swift rebuttal comes as Ijebu land navigates sensitive traditional matters, with authorities urging calm and reliance on facts to preserve unity and cultural integrity.
