Ogun NYSC Coordinator Visits Olota, Seeks Enhanced Cultural Integration

The Ogun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Olayinka Diana Nasamu, paid a courtesy visit to the Palace of His Majesty, Oba Professor Adeyemi Abdukabir Obalanlege, (Lanlege Ekun II, Arole Iganmode), Olota of the Paramount and Ancient Otta Kingdom, Aworiland, on Wednesday, 11th December 2024.

The Awori monarch received the NYSC boss at the iconic Ipeti Royal Square at the Olota’s Palace, Enu Owa, Otta, Ogun State.

Prince Adeyemi Olusesi, the Principal Secretary to Olota of Ota, expressed this in a statement made available to newsheadline247.

According to to Olusesi, Mrs. Nasamu, accompanied by top officials of the NYSC from Ogun State and Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, commended Oba Obalanlege for his exemplary leadership as a father figure and role model. She lauded the significant contributions of traditional rulers to the success of the NYSC scheme and appealed for greater involvement of monarchs in NYSC programmes, particularly in fostering cultural integration to preserve Nigeria’s rich cultural values and traditions.

The State Coordinator also highlighted the challenges faced by Corps members, particularly the need for additional stipends from their places of primary assignment to augment their federal government allowance amidst the current economic realities.

In his remarks, Adeyemi Obalanlege, warmly welcomed Mrs. Nasamu and her delegation to the Kingdom. Kabiyesi commended her proactive engagement with stakeholders to safeguard the welfare of Corps members, describing her as a “worthy mother figure.” Kabiyesi Olota assured her of his unwavering commitment to achieving comprehensive cultural integration, as advocated.

Olota further called on organizations and institutions within the state to address the Coordinator’s request, particularly concerning additional stipends for Corps members.

Leading by example, Kabiyesi announced an increment in the cumulative stipends for Corps members serving at the palace while maintaining the existing arrangement for accommodation and other benefits.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), established as a one-year mandatory post-tertiary programme by the Federal Government, remains a vital tool for fostering unity and promoting national development in the country. Read More
