Two members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ado-Odo/Ota, Ogun State, are currently on the run for their lives, after expressing concerns for their safety. This is said to be coming on the heels of their extensive grassroots campaign during the 2023 general elections held in February and May.
Tunji Adeta and AbdulRashheed Adeta, both known as PDP youth leaders and grassroots mobilizers in the Ado-Odo/Igbesa state constituency, disclosed that their colleague, Adeleke, was tragically killed in the Lusada area of Agbara/Igbesa shortly after the elections.
The duo claimed that unknown gunmen have been incessantly tailing them since their colleague’s death in August.
Tunji, while expressing fear during a phone conversation, said, “We are scared! Our lives are in danger! Adeleke was stabbed to death at Lusada, around Agbara/Igbesa area of Ado-Odo/Otta. Since then, unknown gunmen have been relentlessly following and harassing us. It has been a terrifying experience.”
Although the duo did not disclose whether they have reported the threats to the police or other relevant security agencies, they admitted withholding such information for security purposes and their own safety. “We are presently on the run for safety of our lives first,” Tunji stated.
It should be noted that the Ogun State 2023 governorship and house of assembly elections were highly contested by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP.
While the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Dapo Abiodun, the incumbent and APC candidate, as the winner, the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Ladi Adebutu, rejected the result and filed a petition with the Ogun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, seeking to nullify the outcome. The matter has now been taken to the appeal court following the tribunal’s decision to uphold Mr Abiodun’s victory.
