APC leaders in Ward 12, Sagamu, Ogun State, have reaffirmed Senator Gbenga Daniel’s party membership, dismissing claims of his suspension from another ward as invalid and legally flawed

Ogun: Ward 12 APC Leaders Affirm Gbenga Daniel’s Membership Amid Purported Suspension
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 12 (Isote), Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, have publicly reaffirmed that Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) remains a bona fide member of the party, dismissing claims of his alleged suspension as baseless and procedurally flawed.
The affirmation came through a viral video circulating on social media, in which Ward 12 APC executives challenged reports that the former Ogun State governor had been suspended by party officials in Ward 4 (Sabo), Sagamu.
Speaking in the video, the Chairman of APC Ward 12, Olusegun Olusiji, questioned the legitimacy of the suspension claims.
“We were only hearing rumours of your suspension in Ward 4 and I’m yet to hear of any order suspending you in our own Ward 12. When did OGD collect membership card in Ward 4?” Olusiji asked.
The statement directly contradicts claims by APC executives in Ward 4, who insist that Senator Daniel’s indefinite suspension, allegedly imposed in August 2025 over accusations of anti-party activities, remains valid and was ratified by the state chapter.

Otunba Daniel, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in February 2021, officially registered and collected his APC membership card in Isote Ward 12, accompanied by several APC governors at the time, including Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun.
The controversy deepened when Ward 4 executives accused the senator of engaging in actions deemed hostile to APC interests, particularly during recent elections and proceedings at election petition tribunals.
However, Daniel’s supporters and party leaders from Ogun East Senatorial District have consistently dismissed the suspension as invalid, arguing that no ward has the authority to discipline a member registered outside its jurisdiction.
In November 2025, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) intervened in the matter, stating that it had not deliberated on the alleged suspension and affirming Senator Daniel as a “bona fide member” of the party pending further investigation.
Political observers have linked the dispute to growing tensions within the Ogun APC, particularly between Otunba Daniel and Governor Abiodun, amid speculations of strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially regarding the Ogun East senatorial ticket.

Despite the controversy, Senator Daniel has repeatedly denied any plans to defect from the APC, maintaining his loyalty to the party.
Sources close to the former governor welcomed the Ward 12 affirmation as further validation of his legitimate membership, while party stakeholders have urged the APC national leadership to resolve the matter swiftly to preserve unity in Ogun State. Read More
