The Olota of the Ancient and Paramount Ottaland, AbdulKabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, has strongly condemned the political violence reported during the All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government Congress held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Headquarters in Okesuna, Otta.

Prince Adeyemi Sulaimon Olusesi, Principal Secretary to the Olota of the Ancient and Paramount Ottaland made this known in a firm statement released on Monday and made available to newsheadline247.

According to the release, the monarch described the incident as a grave breach of public peace and warned that Otta must not be dragged into political disorder.

Olota made it clear that the ancient city, known for its cultural heritage and economic vibrancy, must remain a symbol of order and dignity.

“Otta, renowned for its history, culture, and enterprise, must never be reduced to a theatre of thuggery, hooliganism, or brigandage,” the royal statement declared.

He stressed that democratic engagement must reflect civility and intellectual discourse rather than violence.

“Democratic participation must be anchored on civility, intellectual engagement, and healthy political competition, not disorder or intimidation.”

The monarch described the reported violence as “a serious and unacceptable breach of public peace,” emphasising that safeguarding political stability is a shared responsibility.

“The preservation of law and order within the political space is a collective responsibility of all political actors and their supporters.”

The palace urged residents, party supporters, and political stakeholders to remain calm and law-abiding despite ongoing political activities.

Reaffirming his commitment to peace in Ottaland, the Olota declared:

“The ancient city of Otta shall not be allowed to descend into lawlessness under any guise.”

He further called for collaboration from all citizens, particularly political leaders, to protect the dignity and sanctity of the Awori Kingdom.

The statement was signed by Prince Adeyemi Sulaimon Olusesi, Principal Secretary to the Olota of the Ancient and Paramount Ottaland.

The monarch’s intervention comes at a critical moment in Ogun State’s political landscape and sends a clear message that traditional institutions in Otta will not tolerate violence under the cover of political activity.

Observers say the royal warning could serve as a stabilising influence as political engagements continue in the region. Read More
