Oba (Professor) Adeyemi Abdukabir Adeyemi Obalanlege on Friday, May 10, 2019, marked his first year coronation anniversary of ascending the throne of his forefathers as the 21st Olota of Ota Aworiland in Ogun State.

The coronation anniversary kicked off with special prayers and Jumaat Service led by Sheik Kamaldeen Olohungbebe at the Sheik Ibrahim Olohungbe Central Mosque, Iganmode Road, Ota.

The academician turned royal father at a press conference held inside the newly built multi-million naira palace reeled out few of his multiple achievements just after one year on the throne.

Mr. Fola Akinde, the Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the first coronation anniversary in statement made available to journalists at the palace said, the socio-economic activities in and around Ota have been on the ‘turbo’ with the upgrading of the four high chiefs  from the four major quarters of the Aworiland to coronet Obas within the period under review.

Mr Akinde in the statement also listed the launching of a billion naira legacy project tagged as the Olota Foundation for Economic and Development Initiatives (Olota FECODEIN) aimed at providing social and economic empowerment to indigenes and non-indigenes and promoting a business-friendly environment for all among other objectives.

Oba Obalanlege also facilitated the reestablishment a police station in the heart of the ancient city to combat crime and menace of hoodlums within Ota neighbourhoods and its environs.

Mr Akinde in the statement said, “Today, May 10 marks the first year of the ascension of Olota of Ota Oba Prof. Abdukabir Adeyemi Obalanlege (Lanlege Ekun II) Arole Iganmode to the throne of his forefathers and looking back in the last year, we have every reason to roll out the drums in celebration.

“Within the period under review, socio-economic activities in and around Ota have been on the turbo level with the upgrading of the four high chiefs from Ijana, Otun, Osi and Oruba to the status of coronet obas, an effort we thank the governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun for.

“Ita Oba day celebration during the last Ileya festival being the official ceremonial outing of Kabiyesi which brought sons and daughters of Ota together, presentation of keys to the gate of the city of Ota at the 1st Awori Economic and Security Summit to recognise some people who have contributed positively to the growth of and development of Ota.

“Iganmode Carnival rounded off the year with a royal visit to the four quarters of Ota and the launching of a billion naira legacy project – Olota FECODEIN (Olota Foundation for Economic & Development Initiatives). A project that provides social and economic empowerment to indigenes and non-indigenes ensures the security of lives and properties, thereby, promoting a friendly business environment, reduce crime and criminalities.”

Anniversary Timetable

Mr Akinde, in the statement, also announced various activities and dates set to mark the first year coronation anniversary of the Olota of Ota.

“For the coronation anniversary which has commenced today, with special prayers and Jumaat service, will continue on Sunday 12th May 11, 2019, with a thanksgiving service at Cathedral Church of St. James’ Diocese of Awori, Ota from ten in the morning,” he said.

“The second and final phase of the celebration will commence on 19th June 2019 after the Ramadan season with visitation to Ijamido Children Home, State hospital and lecture that centres on the history of Ota.

“Other programmes will include a cultural day on the 20th June 11, 2019, homage to Olota of Ota football match on the 21st June 2019 and the grand finale on the 22nd of June, 2019 at the Ijamido City Hall, Ota, from ten in the morning.”

Government Attention

Mr Akinde, while acknowledging various efforts of the government at improving socio-economic activities in and around Ota appealed to the Federal Government of Nigeria to expedite action on the rehabilitation of Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta motor road noting that the road has become a ‘nightmare for motorists, commuters and the business community.’

“While appreciating the support of the corporate world for the development of our community, we also challenged them on the issues of employment for our teeming youths in return for the good of neighbourliness of the people of Ota,” he said.

Mr Akinde, however, called on all sons, daughters and friends of Ota Aworiland to join in the celebration of the first coronation anniversary of Olota and ‘’savour our rich cultural values.”
