Prince Rasaki Obasanya has returned as chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the 2026 Iganmode Cultural Festival after receiving the approval of the Olota of the Ancient and Paramount Ottaland, Awori Kingdom, His Majesty, Oba Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege, Ph.D.
The development was announced on Sunday by the Principal Secretary to the Olota, Prince Adeyemi Sulaimon Olusesi, in a statement made available to newsheadline247.
Olusesi said Obasanya’s return followed his confirmation by the monarch on merit, describing the composition of the planning committee as a blend of individuals with diverse experience and a demonstrated commitment to the development of Otta and the preservation of its cultural heritage.
“His Majesty has approved the composition of the Central Planning Committee, bringing together individuals with diverse experience, expertise and proven commitment to the development of Otta and the preservation of our rich cultural heritage,” Olusesi said.
Obasanya will lead the committee as chairman, while Chief Mrs Kafayat Olawunmi Dada (Dazar) will serve as vice chairman and Prince Kamardeen Ogungbayi as secretary.
Other members of the committee are High Chief Iyabo Ahmed, Yeye Iwase of Otta; Omooba Sesan Dada; Omooba Abayomi Ahmed; Hon. Mojeed Ajibose; Prince Ayo Obalanlege; and Adeosun Islamiyat.
The committee is expected to deploy its collective experience and expertise towards the successful planning and execution of the 2026 edition of the festival, which is scheduled to run from December 11 to 19.
The programme is expected to begin with a Jumat Service on December 11, followed by a Church Service on December 13, while the Grand Reception is slated for December 19.
The 2026 festival is themed “Our Culture, Our Environment, Our Future,” reflecting an emphasis on the preservation of Iganmode’s cultural heritage alongside environmental responsibility and the future development of the community.
According to the statement, the planning committee will be formally inaugurated soon at the Ipeti Royal Square, where members are expected to receive their mandate and commence preparations for the festival.
The return of Obasanya to the leadership of the planning committee comes as preparations gather momentum for the 2026 celebration, which is expected to bring together stakeholders and residents to celebrate the history, culture and identity of the Iganmode people.
