The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has officially barred House of Representatives member Lukman Mudashiru from entering his palace, citing the lawmaker’s neglect of traditional institutions in Iwoland.

Mudashiru, who represents the Ayedire/Iwo/Olaoluwa Federal Constituency under the Accord Party, was accused by the monarch of failing to maintain proper engagement with the palace and other heritage structures of the community.

The announcement, shared on Oba Akanbi’s official Facebook page on Friday, followed the monarch’s public endorsement of another indigene, Ayodeji Bello, who is seeking the Accord ticket for the same federal constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The position of the Oluwo demands respect and accountability from elected representatives within the district. Oluwo is an entity. He is the traditional head of the town,” Oba Akanbi said.
“By virtue of these pedigrees, Oluwo deserves the highest traditional honour. If you are a politician representing any or all areas in the district, you owe Oluwo a stewardship explanation.”

The statement emphasized that elected officials are expected to provide updates on their activities to the traditional leadership:
“Either directly or indirectly, you are representing the interests of this district.

Traditionally, he heads the district, and stewardship accountability is owed to him from all elective and appointed political holders.”

Sources noted that the monarch had previously criticised Mudashiru for allegedly sidelining traditional authorities in Iwoland. The latest statement reinforced that the lawmaker would no longer have access to the palace.

When reached for comment, Mudashiru described the dispute as a personal matter, saying:
