The Ondo PDP and APC have exchanged sharp words over Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s thank-you tour, with the opposition calling it a charade and the ruling party defending it as grassroots engagement

Ondo: Aiyedatiwa’s Thank-You Tour Shows Governance Failure — PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State chapter, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday engaged in a heated war of words over the statewide thank-you tour embarked upon by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The PDP faulted the timing of the tour, arguing that the governor’s decision to embark on such an exercise after spending two years as a substantive governor shows a lack of seriousness about governance.
Governor Aiyedatiwa on Monday commenced a tour of local government areas across the state, aimed at appreciating grassroots supporters and mobilising backing for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Taking a swipe at the governor, the opposition party, in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Wande Ajayi, described the tour as a charade.
Ajayi argued that governance under the APC in Ondo State has been reduced to optics, handouts, and tokenism, insisting that the governor should be commissioning completed projects rather than embarking on appreciation visits.
According to the PDP spokesman, there is little to show for the governor’s two years in office, adding that the tour reflects a government that has lost focus and exhibits misplaced priorities.
“Across the length and breadth of the state, public schools are collapsing, healthcare facilities are in a state of ruin, roads have become death traps, and civil servants and pensioners continue to suffer under harsh economic realities,” Ajayi said.
Reacting to the PDP’s criticism, the All Progressives Congress (APC) defended the governor’s action, describing the thank-you tour as a demonstration of humility, accessibility, and responsive leadership.
In a statement issued by the APC Director of Media and Publicity in Ondo State, Steve Otaloro, the ruling party said Governor Aiyedatiwa’s decision to personally engage with communities across the state underscores his commitment to inclusive governance.
Otaloro maintained that the Aiyedatiwa administration has continued to steer the affairs of the state with a high sense of responsibility, adding that engaging the grassroots remains a vital aspect of democratic leadership. Read More
