Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa reassures Ondo people of inclusive development and enhanced security during a thanksgiving service to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary

Aiyedatiwa Promises Inclusive Growth, Security at Ondo Independence Thanksgiving
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has pledged that no part of the state will be left behind in his administration’s development drive, assuring citizens of inclusive growth and strengthened security across all communities.
The Governor made the promise on Sunday during a thanksgiving service at the Chapel of the Annunciation, Archbishop Vining College of Theology, Oke-Emeso, Akure, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
“In the last several months, much has been achieved, yet I stand before you to humbly say that we are only just beginning. By God’s grace, we shall not relent until every community in the state can feel the touch of development,” Aiyedatiwa said.
He reaffirmed that his government was anchored on service, accountability, and progress. “Our works are ongoing and the results are spreading. More will be done, because we too will do new things,” he told the congregation.
Reflecting on the significance of Independence, the Governor said it was more than symbolic flag ceremonies, describing it as a call to unity and responsibility. “Independence is more than the lowering of one flag and the raising of another. It is a constant reminder of freedom, responsibility and nationhood,” he noted, adding that Nigerians must never forget the sacrifices of heroes past.
Aiyedatiwa also stressed the importance of citizens’ participation in tackling insecurity. “Security is the primary duty of government, but it is everybody’s business. It is not the elephants or bamboos that cause insecurity; it is human beings breaking the laws. Citizens’ participation is very key,” he said.
The Governor praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as “revolutionary reforms and infrastructural development,” urging Nigerians to support his Renewed Hope Agenda. “We are very proud of the exemplary leadership of the President. It is our collective duty to support him,” he added.
Earlier in his sermon, Rt. Rev. Joseph Alaba Olusola, Bishop of Ijesa North Diocese and Chairman of the Vining College Board, urged Nigerians to embrace repentance, unity, and a return to God. “There must be a national moral divide and the new belief must begin with repentance and with everyone returning to God,” he said.
Other clergy, including the Rector of the College, Ven. Dr. Moses Adetunbi, and former Anglican Bishop Michael Ipinmoye, commended the Governor for his infrastructural projects, prompt salary and pension payments, and prayed for the state’s leadership.
The thanksgiving service was attended by top dignitaries including Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Olamide Oladiji, Secretary to the State Government Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, Chief of Staff Prince Olusegun Omojuwa, members of the cabinet, lawmakers, and security chiefs.
