A total of 1,171 results from the 3,763 polling units in the Osun State governorship election had been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Result Viewing portal as of 5pm on Saturday.
The development came as incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, remained locked in a tight contest as collation continued across the state.
The election was held across Osun’s 30 local government areas, with thousands of registered voters turning out at polling units to choose the next governor.
Results uploaded on INEC’s IReV portal showed that the electoral commission was gradually publishing polling unit results from different parts of the state.
However, the 1,171 results uploaded by 5pm represented less than one-third of the 3,763 polling units where voting took place, leaving the final outcome still uncertain as collation continued.
The closely fought contest between Adeleke and Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, has heightened tension and expectations across the state, with supporters of the two leading candidates closely monitoring the emerging results.
Other candidates in the election include the African Democratic Congress candidate, Hon Najeem Salam, as well as candidates fielded by other political parties.
With more results expected to be uploaded and collated, attention remains focused on the final figures that will determine who emerges as the next governor of Osun State.
