Ota Youth Week: LG Chairman Rallies Youths to Reject Drug Abuse, Embrace Purposeful Living
The Executive Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Hon. Lawal Adewale Wasiu FCA, has charged Nigerian youths to embrace purposeful living and shun drug abuse, warning that substance misuse is a fast track to personal and societal ruin.
Speaking through the Supervisor for Information, Education, Youth, and Sports, Mr. Bojinu Sewedo Shedrack, Hon. Lawal delivered the message at a seminar themed “High in Life, Not on Drugs” — part of the Ota Youth Week 2025 celebrations, held at the Ota Recreation Centre.
The event featured expert presentations from Lion Ibiba Odili, Assistant Commander General Narcotics; SP L. O. Chukwusa of the Sango Police Division; and Dr. Biola Bankole, MD of CKC Hospital Ota. They outlined the devastating effects of drug abuse, linking it to rising crime, threats to public safety, and long-term health consequences.
Hon. Lawal urged young people to channel their energy into productive ventures.
“Dream big, strive for excellence, and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said. “The future of our nation depends on the resilience and ambition of its young people.”
He further called on parents, guardians, and mentors to play an active role in guiding and supporting the youth, stressing that collective vigilance is essential in the fight against drug abuse.
“We must work together to build a thriving and drug-free Ado-Odo/Ota community,” he added.
The chairman’s remarks align with his administration’s ongoing investment in youth development and community-building projects, a commitment he says will remain a priority. Read More
