The Muslim Affairs Directorate of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA), Lagos State, has intensified its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, engaging Islamic leaders across the state to seek support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election and the emergence of Deputy Governor Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat as governor of Lagos State.
The strategic stakeholders’ engagement was held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the RHA Secretariat in Lagos, bringing together Chief Imams from the five IBILE divisions, heads of Arabic Markaz, mosque leaders and representatives of Islamic organisations.
The meeting was convened by the Director of Muslim Affairs, Alhaji Waheed Tella, alongside his deputy, Alhaji M. O. Sanni; Secretary, Hajia Aloba Idayah, Esq.; and unit heads, Alhaji Tajudeen Uzamot and Alhaji Wasiu.
Tella said the directorate had a mandate to mobilise Muslim support for the political objectives of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Lagos, claiming that the Muslim voting population in the state was more than 15 million.
He also identified Tayo Ayinde, Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, as the Director General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Lagos.
The engagement featured a lecture by Dr. Shaykh Muslihudeen Abiodun Kalejaye, founder of Aenur Rahmah International Islamic Society of Nigeria, who urged Muslims to become more active in governance, participate in the electoral process and protect their votes.
Kalejaye also highlighted what he described as the achievements of President Tinubu in infrastructure, economic stability and nation-building, while urging members of the Muslim community to take a strategic approach to political participation.
In his keynote address, the Chief of Staff of RHA Lagos, Dr. AbdulGaniu Sopeyin, highlighted programmes and policies of the Tinubu administration, including reforms involving the State Universal Basic Education Board and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
Sopeyin urged parents and students to take advantage of Federal Government interventions, while calling on eligible voters to obtain and safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards.
The meeting also featured an interactive session during which participants raised issues including voter registration and PVC sensitisation, the welfare of mosques and greater inclusion of women in business.
Responding to concerns about women’s participation, Sopeyin said the RHA had established Directorates for Women Affairs and Business Women to promote greater inclusion.
He also assured participants that “the Renewed Hope Ambassadors has come to stay.”
The engagement was attended by representatives of Jamahly, Jamatul Islamiyya, Al-Fatih-Quareeb, FOMWAN, MSSN-Lagos, Al-Muminat, Darul Falah, Darur Ishrad, The Criterion, NACOMYO, NADWAT, Assama Adani, Nawairudeen and Islamic Prayer Warriors, among other Islamic groups.
The latest mobilisation effort is part of a broader political outreach by the Lagos Muslim Affairs Directorate of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors. In August, the group held engagements with Islamic organisations, including the Shamsudeen Society of Nigeria and Daru D’Dawah, to build support for Tinubu and Hamzat ahead of the 2027 elections.
