Former governors, traditional rulers, and prominent indigenes of Lagos are set to converge for the 2026 Ibile Eko Summit to deliberate on pressing issues affecting the interests and development of Lagos indigenes.
The disclosure was made in a statement by Dr. Agboola Kotun, Head of the Lagos Division and Chairman of the Summit Planning Committee.
According to the organisers, the summit—scheduled for April 15—will hold at the MUSON Centre, with the theme: “Addressing Urbanisation and Urban Challenges of Lagos State.”
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to serve as chief host, while former governor Babatunde Fashola will deliver the keynote address.
Also billed to speak is Prof. Sule Akinsemoyin, Executive Director of the Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research, who will attend as guest speaker.
The summit will feature the participation of notable traditional rulers, including Rilwan Akiolu, alongside the Olu of Agboyi, Oniba of Iba, Oniru of Iruland, Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Ranodu of Imota, and Alara of Ilara.
President of the Ibile Eko Summit Foundation, Olasupo Shasore, will formally welcome participants to the high-level gathering.
Organisers say the summit is designed to provide a platform for robust dialogue on urbanisation pressures, infrastructure gaps, and socio-economic challenges confronting Lagos indigenes, while also advancing practical solutions for inclusive growth.
Highlighting previous interventions, the foundation noted that it had championed a proposal to declare May 27 as Lagos Day to celebrate the state’s cultural heritage, with a private bill already submitted to the Lagos State House of Assembly.
It also revealed ongoing advocacy for a policy requiring companies operating within the state to allocate 30 per cent of their workforce to Lagos indigenes.
In addition, the foundation disclosed engagement with the Dangote Group to create employment opportunities for local youths, noting that about 100 young people are currently undergoing recruitment processes.
Reaffirming its commitment, the foundation stated that it would continue to promote policies and initiatives aimed at addressing urban challenges and fostering inclusive development across Lagos State.
