Sen. Natasha Vows to Reveal Evidence of Alleged Sexual Harassment Against Senate President Akpabio

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has vowed to unveil evidence supporting her allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Speaking on Channels Television’s *Politics Today* on Thursday, the senator stated, “At the appropriate time and place, I will share the evidence I possess.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker also addressed a recent attempt to recall her from office, commending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for rejecting the petition, though she noted the decision came later than she would have preferred. “As a lawyer and senator, I understand Nigeria’s system. The key victory is that this recall effort has been halted. I applaud INEC, even if I think they should have dismissed it outright from the start,” she remarked.

Akpoti-Uduaghan challenged the legitimacy of the recall petition, claiming that many of the listed addresses were fabricated. “Most homes in my district don’t have formal labels. INEC counted 208,000 signatures, but I’d wager that during verification, they’d struggle to find even 500 people to confirm signing it,” she asserted.

The recall effort was spearheaded on March 24, 2025, by Charity Omole, an aide to Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, who rallied constituents to submit a petition to INEC. However, in a statement released on Thursday, INEC ruled that the petition failed to meet the requirements of Section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), effectively ending the process. “No further steps will be taken regarding the senator’s recall,” the electoral body confirmed.

The senator’s allegations against Akpabio stem from a prior dispute over Senate seating arrangements, which escalated into broader accusations of sexual harassment and misuse of power. Following the incident, the Senate imposed a six-month suspension on Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing misconduct.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes remain on the senator’s next move and the evidence she has promised to reveal.
