Africa’s Global Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, on Monday illuminated the Lagos Marina skyline with thousands of dazzling lights, festive decorations, and soul-lifting carols to officially usher in the 2025 Christmas season.

The annual Light-Up Ceremony, now a signature tradition for the pan-African financial giant, drew top executives, customers, community members, and music lovers who gathered to witness the colourful spectacle.

The bank’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, led the ceremony alongside Deputy Managing Directors, senior executives, and invited guests. The celebration featured enchanting performances by the UBA CFC Choir and the Lagos Community Gospel Choir, whose renditions electrified the atmosphere.

Addressing the audience, Alawuba said the Light-Up event signifies much more than decorations and carols, describing it as a powerful symbol of hope, joy, and unity for the coming year.

“We are light unto the world, creating an environment of light, of hope, of joy – an environment of love and sharing,” he said. “For us, today officially marks the commencement of the Christmas season – a season of love, hope, and joy.”

The GMD noted that beyond festivities, the ceremony also marks the beginning of acts of charity within the bank’s host communities.

“Christmas is a period of gift sharing, a period of love, and a flow of charity. This is what UBA promises, and we will reach out to our people who have been with us all through,” he added.

The Light-Up event was simultaneously replicated in all 24 countries where UBA operates, reinforcing its global identity and unified brand culture.

Alawuba highlighted the bank’s continental and global footprint, saying:

“UBA is one, everywhere. We operate in 24 countries across four continents. Whatever you see us doing here, we are doing in all our countries of presence.”

He reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to enhancing its environment, appreciating its customers, and valuing staff who continue to contribute to the institution’s growth.

United Bank for Africa remains one of Africa’s biggest financial institutions, employing over 25,000 staff globally and serving more than 45 million customers across Africa, Europe, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates.

Through retail, commercial, and institutional banking, the bank continues to champion financial inclusion and deploy cutting-edge technology across markets.
