Actress Nkechi Blessing has responded defiantly after suffering defeat in her highly anticipated celebrity boxing match against Big Brother Naija winner Phyna.
The bout, staged on Wednesday, October 1, at the Federal Palace Hotel on Victoria Island, Lagos, saw the two popular stars trade heavy punches in what organizers billed as Chaos in the Ring. After several intense rounds, Phyna was declared the winner and walked away with a brand-new car and a ₦50 million cash prize.
Speaking on social media shortly after the fight, Nkechi Blessing refused to concede defeat in spirit. “Still a champion regardless of the result. Even the blind know who the winner is. Somebody shout NBS. That is if you really watch the fight, o. Only two days of training. Shout-out to my coach; I love you, girl. Now let’s go back to making movies cause I no be boxer,” she posted.
The contest marked the climax of weeks of public tension between the pair. They had repeatedly exchanged harsh words at various events in the lead-up to the fight. A day before the bout, the rivalry nearly boiled over during a press conference when the two almost came to physical blows before security stepped in.
While Phyna celebrated her victory in the ring, Nkechi Blessing made it clear she is ready to return to her primary craft — acting.
