President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who passed away in Cairo after a brief illness.
The news of her passing was first announced by her grandson in a Facebook post, expressing gratitude for her life and calling for prayers for her soul.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the late matriarch as a woman of remarkable character who raised children and grandchildren that have contributed meaningfully to the nation.
“Nasir, please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved mother. As someone who has also lost a mother, I share in your grief and understand the depth of your loss,” the President said.
Tinubu noted that the loss of a mother carries a unique emotional weight, praying that the memories of her love, wisdom, and guidance would bring comfort to the bereaved family. He also expressed faith in the Islamic belief of returning to the Creator, stating that she had fulfilled her purpose on earth.
“Losing a mother is a pain unlike any other. I pray that Almighty Allah grants her Aljannah Firdaus and gives the family strength to bear the loss,” he added.
Also mourning the deceased, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, described Hajiya Umma as a caring and motherly figure with whom he shared fond memories.
In a condolence message shared on Facebook, Ribadu extended sympathies to the El-Rufai family, praying for her eternal rest and for strength for those she left behind.
“I have fond memories of shared moments with her and her motherly care. At a time like this, words can offer little comfort for such a profound loss,” he said.
Hajiya Umma El-Rufai is remembered as the matriarch of the El-Rufai family, whose life and values left a lasting impact on her children and community.
