Celebrity designer Toyin Lawani has accused Lagos-based Euracare Hospital of medical negligence, claiming she lost her legs and voice after a ₦100m spine surgery

“I Lost My Legs, My Voice” — Toyin Lawani Calls Out Euracare Hospital

Celebrity fashion designer and entrepreneur, Toyin Lawani, has publicly accused a Lagos-based private medical facility, Euracare Hospital, of alleged medical negligence following a spinal surgery that reportedly left her unable to walk and battling severe lung complications.

The founder of Tiannah Empire made the allegations on Sunday through a series of emotionally charged posts on her Instagram page, revealing that what was meant to be a routine spine surgery turned into a prolonged medical nightmare—despite spending close to ₦100 million at the hospital.

According to Lawani, the procedure resulted in her losing the use of her legs, suffering lung infections, and sustaining damage to her vocal cords, forcing her to undergo multiple emergency surgeries both in Nigeria and abroad.

“Euracare Hospital your cup is finally full… Don’t worry, just wait for me. I’m coming,” she wrote.
“You go spend close to 100m for hospital & them go still mismanage your health.”

Narrating the ordeal in graphic detail, Lawani alleged that she was rushed back into surgery the day after the initial procedure due to complications, including bleeding in her lungs.

“Till today I still can’t speak well or walk well. I had complications and started bleeding in my lungs,” she said.
“Before I know, I stopped breathing. They had to puncture my lungs and destroyed my vocal cords.”

She further claimed that after being discharged, she lost the use of both legs and was forced to return to the same hospital, where a third surgery was allegedly recommended after consultations with a UK-based ENT specialist.

“When I lost the use of my two legs after I was sent home & I ended up back in that hospital again, I had to call the ENT doctor in the UK,” she added.

Following continued complications, Lawani said she travelled to the United Kingdom, where doctors reportedly discovered infections and “large lumps” in her lungs, necessitating yet another surgery.

“Still in hospital in & out till date due to this… They won’t even care if it’s their mismanagement, you will still pay,” she lamented.

The fashion icon said she plans to pursue legal action against the hospital once she regains her strength, insisting that her silence should not be mistaken for weakness.

Her public outburst comes days after renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie accused the same hospital of medical negligence allegedly linked to the death of her son—a claim that has since drawn national attention.

Following Adichie’s allegation, the Lagos State Government ordered an official investigation into the incident involving Euracare Hospital.

As of press time, Euracare Hospital has not issued an official response to Lawani’s allegations. Read More
