Trial of Fayose: Witness reveals three aircraft moved N1.2bn to Ekiti

Damola Otuyena is one of the four prosecution witnesses the trial of the former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose over alleged fraud.

In the trial resumed on Monday at the Lagos division of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Otuyena told the court that three aircraft were used to fly N1.2billion from Lagos to Ekiti State for delivery to the former governor.

The witness who works with a commercial bank told the court that he accompanied the bullion van that took the cash to the airport.

He also gave evidence of how cash was withdrawn on the instructions of the former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, on June 16 and 17, 2014.

He, however, said that although Obanikoro operated the account and was the known holder, he was not the official signatory nor was he a director to the company in whose name the account was opened.

Mr Fayose is facing 11 charges of conspiracy and money laundering – an allegation which he and his company, Spotless Limited, pleaded not guilty to.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had also accused Fayose of benefitting from the five billion dollars slush funds allocated to the office of National Security Adviser by the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun had on October 24, granted bail to the former Governor to the tune of N50 million with two sureties who must issue a N50 million bond in a reputable bank as well as possess three years tax clearance.

She had also directed that the former governor deposits his international passport with the court.
