Kaduna: Troops Storm Kidnap Hideouts, Rescue Six Victims in Gun Battle

Troops of Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have recorded another operational breakthrough with the rescue of six kidnapped victims in the Kajuru/Kujama axis of Kaduna State.

The rescue operation was carried out on January 5, 2026, as part of a coordinated series of security offensives conducted simultaneously across several flashpoints in Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia and Kagarko Local Government Areas, including border communities around Kauru.

According to the military, the operations were deliberately designed to constrain the movement and operational freedom of violent extremist elements operating within the Joint Operations Area (JOA) under Sector 1 of OPFY.

The breakthrough followed a distress alert on the presence and activities of armed criminals around the Kasso adjoining hills. Troops of Sub-Sector 5, who were already conducting clearance operations in the Kujeni general area, swiftly mobilised to the location.

On arrival, the troops made contact with the kidnappers and engaged them with effective suppressive fire, forcing the criminals to flee in disarray into the surrounding forest.

Commending the troops for their gallantry, the General Officer Commanding and Commander, Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase, urged them to remain on maximum alert and sustain the aggressive operational tempo to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the JOA.

The update was confirmed in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army / Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, on January 6, 2026
