US Embassy Issues New Visa Directive For Nigerians: Applicants To Visit Consulate General Twice

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has updated its immigration visa processes for immigrants, effective January 1, 2025.

According to the embassy, applicants who have scheduled interviews will now be required to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during the visa application process. This directive was announced on the embassy’s official X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday.

The announcement stated, “For applicants with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, you are required to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during the immigrant visa process.

“This new procedure is designed to help you prepare for your visa interview and to prevent significant delays in processing your immigrant visa.”

Further details on the embassy’s website indicated that the first visit to the U.S. Consulate in Lagos will be for an ‘In-Person Document Review’ with a consular staff member.

This review is intended to ensure that applicants are prepared for their visa interviews and allows them to identify and retrieve any missing documents ahead of time, helping to avoid delays in the application process.

The second visit will be an interview with a Consular Officer, with the date scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC). If applicants do not complete the In-Person Document Review before their visa interview, they will be required to reschedule their appointment.

Recall that in July 2024, the embassy announced that operations at its consulates in Abuja and Lagos will transition to a new visa services provider starting August 26, 2024.

This decision was communicated on the official website and verified social media channels of the U.S. Embassy. Read More
