The husband of a 36-year-old woman arrested in Anambra State over allegations of sexually abusing their underage daughter has publicly detailed how he first learned of the alleged crime.
Ikechukwu Onyeanyusi said a friend alerted him on Thursday evening by showing him a video that appeared to show his wife, Anulika Onyeanusia, using a sex toy on their daughter. Onyeanyusi, who was returning from work, said he had not previously seen the footage circulating online.
“I saw the video. It was my wife, and I saw my daughter. She was molesting the child,” he stated in a video released Saturday by the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare. He described feeling confused and initially wanting to leave the scene before his friend urged him to remain calm.
When he confronted his wife, she denied the allegation and claimed the video was artificially generated. “I saw you! I saw your video! I saw everything, and you are telling me it’s not true?” he recalled asking her. She insisted it was AI-generated.
Police officers arrived at the family’s residence in Onitsha shortly afterward, searched the premises, and arrested Anulika Onyeanusia. Sex toys and other items linked to the investigation were recovered.
At the police station, the suspect admitted the allegation while being questioned in the presence of the Divisional Police Officer. She confirmed her husband had no prior knowledge of her actions. Onyeanyusi said he was devastated by the confession. “I got weak. I got tired. How come this kind of a thing can happen?” he said.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed that the suspect was arrested on September 10 after open-source intelligence flagged a disturbing viral video. Officers rescued four children aged two, three, six and nine during the operation. The suspect remains in custody as investigators examine the circumstances and determine whether others were involved.
In a circulating video of her interrogation, Anulika Onyeanusia stated that she uploaded content involving her daughter to a pornographic platform for money, with the highest amount she received being $300. She blamed the devil, pleaded for forgiveness, and reiterated that her husband was unaware.
Anambra State First Lady Dr Nonye Soludo condemned the alleged abuse as “beyond comprehension” and pledged close monitoring of the case to ensure the children receive medical, psychological and rehabilitation support.
Onyeanyusi said he decided to speak publicly because he was “totally disappointed” in his wife and wanted the public to understand how the alleged abuse came to light.
