Wandering Elephant Kills Farmer In Ogun
Tragedy struck in Ogun State on Monday as a farmer lost his life after being attacked by a stray elephant that reportedly escaped from a government forest reserve.
The fatal encounter occurred in Imobi, located in Ijebu East Local Government Area. The victim, identified as Musa Kalamu, was reportedly attacked while working on farmland and later died en route to the hospital.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun, told Punch, “Yes, we are aware and we are already on our way to the community.”
Further details were provided by the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, who said the animal attack was reported to the Ogbere Divisional Police Office on July 28, 2025, at about 4:20 pm.
“The DPO Ogbere received information from the Itasin community that elephants escaped from the government reserve and attacked one Musa Kalamu, who died on the way to the hospital,” Ogunlowo said. “Officers of Ogun State Forestry were contacted to curtail the animals from further damage. Calm has returned to the community.”
