Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved the appointment of three seasoned professionals to strategic positions within the state government, a move aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms and improving service delivery across critical sectors.
The appointments were announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, who said the decision reflects the administration’s commitment to enhancing efficiency in public health, agriculture, livestock development, and community-based intervention programmes.
According to the statement, Dr. Muhammad Habibu Yelwa has been appointed Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Substance Abuse and Control Agency. Dr. Yelwa is a veteran medical practitioner and administrator with extensive experience spanning the health, social welfare, and agricultural sectors. He has previously served as Permanent Secretary in several ministries and played key roles in policy formulation and institutional reforms within the state.
Also appointed is Dr. Usman Ismaila Gusau as Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Livestock Agency. A specialist in veterinary medicine and public health, Dr. Gusau brings more than 25 years of experience in veterinary services, epidemiology, livestock health management, and public sector administration.
In addition, Governor Lawal reappointed Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed Nakwada as the State Project Coordinator of the Zamfara State Agricultural and Community Development Project (ZACADEP). Nakwada is widely regarded as an experienced agricultural development expert, with decades of involvement in agricultural extension services, project management, IFAD-supported programmes, and community development initiatives. He currently serves as the State Project Coordinator of the ISDB-supported ZACADEP.
The appointments take immediate effect.
Governor Lawal urged the appointees to leverage their expertise, leadership skills, and professional experience to deliver impactful results in their respective roles. He emphasized that their contributions would be vital in advancing the objectives of his administration’s Rescue Agenda and accelerating development across Zamfara State.
