Emerging reports have said that Nigeria’s minister of finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun has resigned over alleged forgery of a National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) certificate.
The trending story also suggested the unconfirmed resignation of Mrs Adeosun was necessary to avoid hampering President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid.
In its report, the Daily Trust NG said it did not have information about when Adeosun submitted her resignation letter.
Further reports, however, maintained that the minister on Friday afternoon was still in her office working while tales of her resignation flooded the media space.
Daily Trust NG had broken the news of Mrs Adeosun’s resignation on Friday following an exclusive report by Premium Times NG that she skipped the NYSC presented a forged exemption certificate as part of her credentials.
A report by TheCable NG, however, indicates the minister may have resigned, after all, quoting two of Mrs Adeosun’s close associates.
TheCable NG said her associates informed she “toed the path of honour by choosing to step down so that her NYSC issue will not be used against the president and the party.”
“Posterity will judge her for doing the honourable thing by resigning,” one of the associates said.
The presidency is yet to officially confirm her resignation.
Adeosun graduated from the Polytechnic of East London in 1989, at 22. According to her curriculum vitae, she was born in March 1967.
Nigerians who graduate after 30 years of age get exempted from NYSC.
NYSC certificate is a requirement for government and private sector jobs in Nigeria.
