The preferred gubernatorial candidate of Ibikunle Amosun, the governor of Ogun state for the 2019 election in the state, Abiodun Akinlade on Thursday dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for Allied People’s Movement (APM).

Akinlade, representing Egbado South and Ipokia federal constituency of Ogun formally announced his defection at the House of Representatives on Thursday.

Also, three other members of the lower legislative chamber announced their defection to other parties.

They are Rabiu Kaugama from Jigawa who moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Salisu Koko from Kebbi who also joined APC but from SDP and Mohammed Ajanah from Kogi who defected from APC to PDP.

Akinlade, was roundly beaten by the Dapo Abiodun at the APC governorship primary in Ogun State despite all efforts put in place by Amosun to make him secure it.

His defection is coming few days to Independent National Electoral Commission’s deadline of governorship candidates’ substitution.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given parties up till December 1 to substitute candidates for governorship and state houses of assembly elections.

Governor Amosun who later pledged loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier said he was under pressure to dump APC following the controversies which trailed the party primaries in the state.

However, owing to the ongoing crisis in the ruling party, Amosun was the only South West governor absent when Isiaka Oyetola was sworn in as governor of Osun state on Tuesday.
