Bankole’s defection was a grand plot to check the popularity of Ibikunle Amosun

The governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun and a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, on Thursday met behind closed doors in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The two political leaders went to the meeting which lasted two hours shortly after Bankole arrived at the Oke-Mosan state government secretariat around 4.12 pm.

Bankole had defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) last week alongside a former governor of the state,  Otunba Gbenga Daniel, and met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the statehouse on Abuja.

Newsheadline247 understand that Bankole’s defection was a grand plot to check the popularity of Ibikunle Amosun, the immediate past governor of the state.

Both Amosun and Bankole are from the Ogun Central Senatorial district which is believed to be a strong base for the victory of any party at the poll.

Amosun currently represents the Senatorial district in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

The details of the meeting were not disclosed, but, but leaked information indicates that the former rep speaker was brought in to make the second term ambition of the governor seamless in the district.

When asked of his impression of the Abiodun administration, Bankole said, “So far, so good.”

He added that his meetings with both the President and governor had “good outcomes.”

When asked about what he would bring to his new party, Bankole said, “You would soon find out.”
