Late Tuesday night, a group of terrorists attacked the Kuje Medium Custodial Centre in Abuja, the nation’s capital with bombs.

The attack was hinged on an apparent move to gain entry into the facility and free some of its members.

Around 10: 25 pm, a high-caliber bomb was first released by the terrorists followed by second and third blasts as well as sporadic gunshots that sent residents into panic mode.

It was gathered that the Nigerian Correctional Service NCoS had earlier received intelligence reports that one of its facilities could come under attack.

The massive shelling of the prison facility comes shortly after a reported attack on the security squad attached to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The attack on the security team, which occurred in Katsina earlier on Tuesday, left two persons injured.

However, the president was not in the convoy when the gunmen opened fire.

The security team was on its way to Katsina to prepare for a later visit by Buhari to Daura, his hometown, for the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir festival.
