A bill sponsored by the Ogun Stste former governor and current member of the Senate representing Ogun East senatorial district at the national assembly, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has passed first reading at the senate.

This is In continuation of his strategic moves towards promoting the interest of the South West region in the national assembly.

The South West Development Commission, SWDC bill seeks to establish a commission charged with the responsibility of receiving and managing funds from the federal government among other things.

It would also address infrastructural and ecological challenges in the region.

It is believed that the establishment of this commission would guarantee funds for the development of the entire South West region.

Already, Nigeria has development commissions for the Niger Delta and the North-East.

The South-West zone consists of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti states which are the Yoruba territory of Nigeria.
