Ondo Guber: Hundreds of PDP members dump party for APC, promise support for Aiyedatiwa
Governor Aiyedatiwa encouraged voters to come out in large numbers on November 16 to support the APC, considering the election as validation of the governor’s achievements across various sectors in the state
Prior to the governorship election in Ondo State on November 16, a notable member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akinsola Jimoh, has switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) along with approximately 600 of his followers.
Jimoh, who was the PDP’s candidate for the House of Assembly in Okitipupa Constituency 1 during the 2023 general elections, officially joined the APC at an event held at the St. Pius Catholic field in Igbotako Ward 2 on Sunday.
The event was attended by key APC leaders in the state, including Pastor Segun Aiyerin, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Chris Ayebusiwa, the House of Assembly member for Okitipupa Constituency 1, Igbekele Akinriwa, the APC chairman for Okitipupa LGA, and Hon. Abiodun Owonola, the Acting Chairman of Ikale North LCDA.
Representing Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Amidu Takuro, the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs, welcomed Jimoh and his supporters to the APC.
The governor expressed excitement about the new addition, emphasizing Jimoh’s potential to significantly contribute as a grassroots politician.
Governor Aiyedatiwa encouraged voters to come out in large numbers on November 16 to support the APC, considering the election as validation of the governor’s achievements across various sectors in the state.
He said: “For this crowd of people to follow you to the APC without any form of inducement or coercion, it shows only one thing that you are a great leader and a Grassroots politician and we are proud of you, Dr Akinsola Jimoh.
“The governor asked me to come here today and appreciate you for joining the winning team. You are a talent that can’t afford to be in the opposition.”
In the following statement, the State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Aiyerin, commended Dr. Jimoh and his followers for deciding to join the APC. Aiyerin mentioned that this decision would increase the chances of the party in the November 16 governorship election. Aiyerin urged party members in the ward and the local government to enhance their efforts in mobilizing for the election. He emphasized the importance of delivering a significant number of votes for the APC and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in November.
The APC chairman in Okitipupa LGA, Igbekele Akinriwa, stated that the entry of Dr. Akinsola Jimoh and his supporters would further strengthen the party’s position in the council area. Akinriwa encouraged the defectors and other party members to actively participate in party ward meetings and mobilize for the success of the APC.
Dr. Akinsola Jimoh explained that he decided to join the APC after consulting with his associates and admirers in the country, expressing his determination to contribute to the state’s development by joining the ruling party. Dr. Jimoh expressed satisfaction with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership qualities, noting his intention to marshal all resources for a resounding victory for the APC in the upcoming governorship poll.
