MC Oluomo’s Ambition Hangs As New NURTW President Emerged
Ewa is the second person to occupy the position since MC Oluomo left office as the Chairman of the Lagos State chapter in February 2024
The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has announced Anthony Ewa as their new national President, possibly leaving behind the ambitions of Musiliu Akinsanya, the famous former transport union boss popularly known as MC Oluomo.
Those familiar with transport union affairs pointed out that the decision has suspended MC Oluomo’s desire to lead at the national level.
The new national boss of the Nigeria’s transport union, Ewa reportedly assumed office in an acting capacity on Monday, October 14, 2024.
He takes over as the transport union’s top official less than a month after Musiliu Akinsanya, the famous transport union boss known as MC Oluomo, announced himself the “Designated President” of the NURTW.
Ewa is the second person to occupy the position since MC Oluomo left office as the Chairman of the Lagos State chapter in February 2024 as part of a reported “claimed deal” to take over the national role, per SocietyNow NG .
MC Oluomo’s attempt was rebuffed by legal disputes and threats of protest by the Joe Ajaero-led Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which backed the continued stay in office of embattled President Ibikunle Baruwa.
The Board of Trustees, led by Chairman Usman Najeem Yasin, appointed Aliyu Isa Ore as acting President to bridge the period of impasse until a substantive leader could be elected or selected.
This development boosted confidence in MC Oluomo’s camp that he was all set to achieve his dream. His claim of being the “Designated President” further fueled this conviction.
However, contrary to expectations that he was next in line, Ewa has now been appointed the new President.
He officially took charge with his introduction to staff and all departments at the national headquarters in Abuja on Monday, October 14, 2024.
According to a statement released by the transport union, Ewa promised that “his immediate focus will be on strengthening unity, which is vital to coming together as one, transcending our differences to foster a spirit of collaboration and mutual respect, because our strength lies in our unity.” More
