A Lagos court has sentenced six men to two years’ imprisonment each for assaulting officers of the state government’s Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) enforcement team in Alakija.
The defendants were arrested on October 10, 2026, following the incident and subsequently arraigned before the Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi.
The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the convictions in a statement posted on his X handle.
According to Wahab, the six defendants pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them before the court convicted and sentenced each of them to two years in prison.
The convicts were identified as Ghadafi Ismail, Balarabe Mustapha, Usman Danladi, Abdullahi Bello, Kamala Garuba and Musa Idris.
Wahab said the sentences reinforced the need for members of the public to respect law enforcement officers carrying out their lawful duties, warning that assaults on public officials would attract legal consequences.
He also reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting public officers and enforcing environmental regulations and other applicable laws across the state.
The commissioner stressed that compliance with the law was essential to preserving public order and ensuring government officials could discharge their statutory responsibilities without intimidation or assault.
The convictions underscore the state government’s position that violence against enforcement officers will be addressed through the judicial process.
