Fake Drug: NAFDAC Arrests Kingsley Ekeanyanwu, the Marketer of Recalled Amoxycillin
Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mojisola Adeyeye has said that the managing director of Divine Kings Pharmaceutical Limited, Kingsley Ekeanyanwu has been arrested and in custody.
The Pharmaceutical company is the marketers of the recalled Deekins Amoxycillin 500mg capsule.
Adeyeye spoke on Thursday at a press briefing in Abuja.
She said that the agency is investigating the capsule manufactured by Ecomed Pharma Ltd.
“If we see bad actors, we go after them, we shut them down. We inspect their facility,” she said.
“If they don’t meet Good Manufacturing Practices, we shut them down temporarily or permanently, depending on the gravity; we have done that, and we have record.
“For this particular case, the Managing Director of Divine Kings Pharmaceutical is in custody in Lagos.”
In a statement on Tuesday, NAFDAC notified Nigerians of the recall of one batch of Deekins Amoxycillin 500mg capsule.
The agency said the batch is being recalled following reports of adverse reactions.
NAFDAC said the product, with batch number 4C639001, was produced in March 2024 and expires in February 2027.
“According to Ecomed Pharma Ltd, reports of serious adverse drug reactions were received from a hospital that reported three cases of serious adverse drug reactions from patients administered with the batch of Deekins Amoxycillin 500mg capsule,” the statement reads.
