Billboard Crowns 2Face’s “African Queen” as Greatest Afrobeats Song of All Time
Billboard has unveiled its list of the Top 50 Best Afrobeats Songs of All-Time, placing 2Face Idibia’s timeless classic “African Queen” at the very top as the number one Afrobeats song
The ranking, curated by Billboard staff, highlights the genre’s global impact and enduring legacy. Nigerian superstar Wizkid made history as the only artist with two songs in the top 10—“Ojuelegba” at number 2 and his international smash hit “Essence” featuring Tems at number 5.
Other standout names in the top 10 include Rema with “Calm Down” at number 4, Favour’s iconic “Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix)” at number 3, and CKay’s record-breaking “Love Nwantiti” at number 6.
While the list is dominated by Nigerian artists, Ghanaian acts also secured spots, with Fuse ODG’s “Azonto” featuring Itz Tiffany at number 18 and Sarkodie’s “Adonai” featuring the late Castro at number 19.
In a significant milestone for women in Afrobeats, Yemi Alade emerged as the highest-ranked female lead artist, with her hit single “Johnny” clinching the number 15 spot.
Other notable entries in the top 20 include Styl-Plus’ evergreen “Olufunmi” (11), 9ice’s “Gongo Aso” (12), and P-Square’s “Do Me” (13). The list also features contributions from Afrobeats heavyweights Wande Coal, Phyno, and Davido, underscoring the genre’s depth and diversity.
