Ondo Police Cybercrime Unit Arrests Fraudster Behind Fake Police Academy Admission Scam
Akure, Nigeria – The Ondo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against cybercrime with the arrest of a notorious fraudster behind a fake Nigeria Police Academy admission syndicate.
In a statement released by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Command, operatives of the specialized Cybercrime Unit on September 5, 2025, apprehended one Samson Olamilekan Owolade, a resident of Ipogun, Akure, over crimes bordering on cyber fraud, defamation of character, and deliberate attempts to incite disaffection against the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano.
According to the statement, the suspect had been on the radar of the Nigeria Police Academy following credible intelligence about individuals and groups defrauding applicants through fake admission offers, false advertisements, and fraudulent online platforms.
“Upon receipt of this vital information, the Ondo State Police Cybercrime Unit swung into action immediately, and in less than an hour of the report, successfully apprehended the suspect,” DSP Olushola stated. He added that efforts are ongoing to track down Owolade’s accomplices.
The suspect has already confessed to his crimes in a video statement and was identified as the creator of several fraudulent platforms, including the WhatsApp group “NPA RC12 Guide and Updates” with over 370 members, where at least 100 aspiring applicants have already fallen victim. He also ran the Facebook page “POLAC UPDATES GROUP”, used to spread misinformation and defame the Nigeria Police Academy.
Items recovered from Owolade include multiple mobile phones, laptop computers, routers, Wi-Fi devices, and several SIM cards used in carrying out the fraud.
The case will be transferred to the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano, for further investigation and prosecution in line with jurisdiction.
The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of the Police Academy and safeguarding the aspirations of young Nigerians. “This arrest is another clear warning to fraudsters and mischief-makers that no matter how far they hide, the long arm of the law will catch up with them,” the statement emphasized.
Public Advisory: The Ondo Police Command strongly warned parents, guardians, and prospective applicants against patronizing individuals, social media groups, or unauthorized agents claiming to guarantee admission into the Nigeria Police Academy.
The Command reiterated that admissions are strictly merit-based and handled only through official channels of the Academy. Members of the public are advised to verify all information directly with the Nigeria Police before taking any action. Read More
