Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s Empowerment Drive Brings Joy to Ogun East Widow, Others

The Ogun East Senatorial District came alive on Saturday, September 27, 2025, as Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) held his midterm community assessment and review programme, tagged The BATOGD Movement 2027.

The event, which focused on grassroots empowerment, touched many lives, with one widow’s story capturing the heart of the gathering.

For Solagbade Alice, a widow from Eruwon in Ijebu North East, the gift of a brand-new sewing machine brought tears of joy. The machine is set to transform the life of her daughter, Adepeju, who had been unable to start a tailoring business after completing her apprenticeship.

“This is not the first time Otunba Daniel has impacted my life,” Alice said, her voice heavy with emotion. “When he was governor, my children came home from school with new books courtesy of him after my husband died. Just three days ago, I cried because I couldn’t afford a sewing machine for my daughter. Today, I didn’t expect my prayers would be answered by Otunba Daniel.”

The senator’s empowerment scheme extended beyond Alice’s family. Farmers received fertilizers, small business owners got cash grants, while transport entrepreneurs benefited from motorcycles and other tools of trade.

The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and reflects OGD’s enduring commitment to grassroots development.

Otunba Daniel, who served as Governor of Ogun State from 2003 to 2011, has long been celebrated for his people-focused leadership. From distributing free schoolbooks during his governorship to commissioning the Renewed Hope International Market in Ìgodè, his projects have consistently uplifted the Ogun East community.

The BATOGD Movement 2027, launched just a week earlier, is designed to mobilize support for President Tinubu’s policies while directly addressing local needs.

For Alice and other beneficiaries, the empowerment programme was not just about material gifts but a beacon of hope. “This sewing machine means my daughter can start her business, and her dreams are closer to reality,” she said, smiling through tears.

As the event closed, chants of gratitude filled the air, reinforcing Senator Daniel’s message that true progress begins with empowering people—one life at a time. Read More
