Independence Anniversary: Agemo-Okuboyejo Praises Nigerians’ Resilience, Urges Integrity in Leadership as Nation Turns 65
As Nigeria marks her 65th Independence anniversary, Engineer Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo has saluted Nigerians for their remarkable resilience and unwavering spirit in the face of decades of economic turbulence, insecurity, and what she described as erratic leadership.
In a statement signed by her media aide, Lukman Omikunle, Agemo-Okuboyejo commended ordinary citizens for being the true backbone of the country’s survival despite repeated leadership failures.
“We, as the people of this great nation, have always emerged from every crisis, particularly in times of economic chaos, insecurity, and political instability,” she said. “It is the resilience and sacrifice of Nigerians that have kept this nation standing strong for 65 years, even when leadership has often failed to meet expectations.”
The frontline advocate for good governance noted that Nigerians have continued to carry the burden of hardship caused by misguided policies, poor governance, and corruption but have always found strength to endure and keep the nation afloat.
“As a people, we have paid dearly through suffering and sacrifices so that our dear nation can continue to exist as a united entity. On this landmark occasion of our nationhood, I salute the courage, determination, and hope that Nigerians carry with them each day,” she added.
Agemo-Okuboyejo, however, stressed that the endurance of Nigerians should not be taken for granted. She urged citizens to take greater responsibility in shaping the country’s future by insisting on leaders of integrity.
“We must be more determined in choosing leaders who embody honesty, transparency, and accountability—leaders with integrity who can steer this nation towards the genuine desires of its people,” she charged.
According to her, the only path to building a Nigeria that works for all citizens and generations to come is to enthrone leadership that places the people above personal interests.
“As we celebrate 65 years of independence, let this be a reminder that democracy is only meaningful when it delivers for the people. The future of our nation depends on the choices we make today,” she concluded. Read More
