Nigerian global music icon David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The appointment, announced by the Osun State Government on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, marks a major step in Governor Ademola Adeleke’s ongoing efforts to revitalise the sports sector and strengthen youth engagement across the state.
According to the government’s statement, Davido’s new role is strategically designed to mobilise resources and investments to drive the development and modernisation of sports facilities in Osun State.
Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also serves as Commissioner for Sports, confirmed Davido’s appointment and revealed that the award-winning singer enthusiastically accepted the role.
“The ongoing rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards will be completed in the shortest possible time,” Adewusi said. “We are also finalising plans to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports development and policy implementation.”
Adewole noted that Davido’s appointment is expected to bring renewed energy, global attention, and substantial investment into the state’s sporting initiatives.
The newly launched Osun State Sports Trust Fund, to be chaired by Davido, will serve as a strategic platform to attract private sector partnerships, philanthropists, and international donors for sustainable sports financing.
“Davido’s involvement is expected to attract substantial funds that will significantly impact the growth of sports in Osun,” Adewusi added.
Governor Adeleke’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to making sports a cornerstone of youth development, community building, and talent discovery.
The governor believes that with the right infrastructure and funding, Osun can produce world-class athletes and harness the transformative power of sports to drive economic growth and social inclusion.
