Senator Gbenga Daniel Still a Bona Fide Member of APC – NWC Declares

Says Suspension Not Yet Ratified

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, remains a bona fide member of the ruling party—contrary to claims that he had been suspended for alleged anti-party activities.

The clarification comes after reports surfaced that Daniel and his associate, Kunle Folarin, had been placed on suspension. The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Lekan Adeniran, also issued a statement insisting that the suspension “remains in full effect” and warned that any political engagement with Daniel as an APC member would be invalid.

Adeniran referenced a letter jointly signed by the Ogun APC Chairman, Yemi Sanusi, and State Secretary, Tella Aderibigbe, dated October 3, 2025, stating that Daniel was suspended on August 19, 2025, and that the decision had been formally communicated to him.

However, APC leaders from the 103 wards across the nine local government areas in Ogun East publicly countered the claim last Tuesday. Addressing journalists, they described the purported suspension as fake, unconstitutional, and not compliant with the party’s procedures.

According to them, any valid suspension must originate from the party member’s ward—something they say never happened in Daniel’s case.

To address the controversy, the APC National Secretariat issued a letter dated November 17, 2025, signed by the National Secretary, Surajudeen Basiru, stating clearly that the NWC has not deliberated on the matter.

Basiru wrote, “The Party has been inundated with the recent notice of suspension of the Distinguished Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel.”

He added, “Please take note that the National Working Committee (NWC) is yet to deliberate on this matter as provided in Articles 21.3(d & e) of the party constitution.”

The party’s national leadership instructed the Ogun State chapter to halt further public statements on the matter pending formal review:

“You are hereby requested to allow the National Working Committee to investigate the matter and take an informed decision on the suspension before issuing any further public correspondence on this matter. Until then, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel remains a bona fide member of the party.”

The APC NWC is expected to open an official inquiry into the allegations leveled against Senator Daniel before arriving at a definitive position, as stipulated by the party’s constitution. Read More
